So I just finished the first of 3 appointments I have this week about this TTC business. (It was just chance they were all scheduled the same week). Today I saw the ob/gyn. Thursday I check in with the endocrinologist and Friday is the perinatologist.
Anyway, ob/gyn confirmed that I am hetero for the MTHFR mutation but she also said I have borderline low Protein C levels. She said the lab my bloodwork was sent to labeled my levels as normal but when she looked at the level herself she thought it was low. Anyone heard of this or have it? I am having difficulty finding the numeric number ranges on what Protein C levels should be. I would appreciate any help!

Did you get a copy of your test results? When I got mind from my lab, I had a value for the "normal" range for everything. If I remember when I get home, I'll see what my lab said for Protein C. If you don't see me post it in a day or two, PM me! I know my levels of APC resistance were low (resistance of Protein C). That was due to my Factor V mutation most likely.
Keep us updated on the rest of your appts! We can share advice!

These are the "NORM" , This is also related to Protien S... Both S and C levels are also dependent on Vitamin K for thier synthesis... Did they check you Vitamin K level... (Just like you need Vit D to absorb Calcium) Just as an FYI...
Protein C activity (plasma)
70 - 140% of nml 0.7 - 1.4 of nml
Protein C antigen (plasma)
70 - 140% of nml 0.7 - 1.4 of nml

Wow Karyn thanks for that info, I learned something today. Starrsgirl I am glad you are getting some answers. I hope you get your bfp very soon and a sticky bean .
Ok...I got the copy of my results. My Protein C activty is 103. Obviously, that does fall in the range that Kary gave and it does fall in the "normal" range on my paper too. However, to my ob/gyn, it looked low I guess. So now I have the copy of the results to take to the perinatologist on Friday.
I'm fairly pleased with my medical care right now. They are doing a lot of stuff. I just had my fasting insulin levels checked this morning (I think that's what it's called)...no results yet. I have PCOS and though I am on Metformin, they may change my dosing a bit depending on the results. And, they found a MTHFR mutation altough my type does not seem to contribue to clotting problems. So...maybe this is a whole lot of worthless nothing...but I'm glad to be doing SOMETHING.
I see the endocrinologist tomorrow and the perinatologist on Friday. I will keep you all posted on anything I learn.
