I got my levels back last night..... They want to do a D/C... I talked them into another week.....
Levels.. the 14th........... 59.6
the 21st............52 .... WTH? They only went down 7 ?? OH COME ON! Why can't my body finally do something right? And this rate my body will never m/c naturally.
Should I just schedule the d/c???

IDK - it's so hard to decide what to do. I guess if it was me and I didn't have the option of taking meds then yes, I would just want it over with and do the d&c. Have you thought about taking the pill for a few days and then stopping to get the hormone drop and for AF to show up. That might 'clean the house' so to speak and get your hcg levels to drop. ? Not sure if that would do anything though. Kary, I wish I had an answer for you.

I am so sorry, this has to be horrible waiting and waiting and having to make this kind of decision. At this point I would have the D&C and get it over with. Kary, so you know I have had a few D&C's in my life and they say they can cause scaring but when I went and had the tests done last month, the doctor said I don't have any scaring at all. (Just wanted to offer you some kind of hope)

I am so sorry, Kary. I don't have much advice, but at this point I would want it over with, either with medication or a d&c. I'm thinking of you and your family.

I'm so sorry hugs hun. If it were me I would have the D&C. I would want to get it over with. But you have to decide what is right for you. Maybe you could see another doctor and see if they will give you the meds?

My personal opinion: I would have the D&C and get it over with and move on. I know it's tough...I'm thinking of you.

Kary, I am so sorry. It is such a personal choice and a really tough one. I had the option of waiting for my body to m/c or the d&c. I chose the d&c for a couple of reasons. I wanted to be done with it and let my body start healing so I could start the next cycle. My dr. also recommended the d&c and I trust her. She said it could have been weeks before my body decided to do what it was supposed to and it would delay my future ttc that much longer. FWIW - I am normally anti meds, anti needless surgery etc. I just felt it was the right choice for me. If facing the same choice I again, I would still opt for the d&c. I had no cramping, some very light spotting for 1 day and that was it. My levels were down to 12 thirteen days after the d&c.
I am so sorry for you. I am relieved you are starting to get answers, but I hate that this is dragging on for you.

Kary, how long do they estimate that it will take for you to reach 0? I mean you were just around the same HCG level as me. And I know you bleed too, so I dont understand why they are so high still. Have you had a repeat u/s to make sure nothing was left behind? I know it was a chemical and there should not be that much in there, but can they at least check your lining and see if it is too thick still? I just started bleeding today after my post, not heavy but its a start.
I really dont want a d&c either, I dont want to wait another 4-6 months for my lining to get built back up and cycles to regulate, so I understand your concern. I would definitely give it another week IMO. You may just hit rock bottom on the levels right before the week is over and not have to worry about the next several months getting back to normal again.

Ugh this must be so frustrating for you! I had a D&C in July and ended up having some retained tissue and my HCG levels were wacky. My doctor gave me the option of a D&C or try to pass it naturally. He told me I had a week to decide, and after that week, I would probably have to have a D&C anyway if things didn't figure themselves out.
I opted not to have the 2nd D&C, for a lot of reasons like scarring and also since my pregnancy was molar, risks of tearing the uterus are quite high. Lucky for me, I was able to pass the retained tissue on my own and my levels have been dropping nicely since.
I agree with most of the ladies comments so far, it is a personal choice. But I would definitely give it another week to see what happens.
I hope your levels start dropping so you can get your body back on track quickly

Oh Kary... I am so sorry. I'm going to be blunt, because I'm outrageously angry for you. If it were me, I'd hate to have another D&C - especially since I know for a fact that my levels were above 50 even after a D&C - and because with levels that low, it might not even be tissue left - so it seems extreme to have another surgery that might risk scarring because there's nothing to actually remove. I think I'd push for them to give me something to start AF. It just seems outrageous to go through one of those procedures again for this....

^This.
I've never had a D/C. Don't plan to. I'm a big believer in staying home and as comfortable as possible and letting things happen naturally. I'm praying for you!

Kary, I recently read a book on recurrent miscarriages and the author said that it can take up to 6 weeks for your levels to return to zero. If I were you I would ask for an u/s first and then decided base on the results.

Kary I am so sorry you are still dealing with all of this. I hope you don't have to have the D&C but I also understand wanting it to be done and moving forward. I am thinking of you lots of .

Cant give you advice because i have never had a natural miscarriage..so I dont really know the difference. Well..I had two natural miscarriages but I was really early and they just seemed like heavy periods. And I wasnt TTC...
However, after my D&C two weeks ago I stopped bleeding four days later and my hcg levels are totally at zero. I wanted to have mine (well. I had to have mine...) but I was glad I had mine because it helped just let me move on... I was able to stop bleeding and picture my uterus healing and getting ready to be fertile again.
Hang in there...this is definately a hard decision! We will be here no matter what!

with Kimberly... it can take some time for your levels to drop as crappy as that is to deal with. I know it's like insult to injury, but honey hang in there I guess sometimes our bodies take a little while longer than we want them to. All in all my doctors and the nurses told me it could be in the spectrum of 4wk to 8wks, but usually right around 6. However there's no perfect norm for everyone, but if levels drag on sometimes it's in the best interest to check into them further instead of beating the peverbial "flea with a mallet" or jumping the gun. I think everyone had a good thoughts and ideas to offer you on this subject...
I personally, with levels that low would wait it out, but definitly inquire about taking a look inside while continuing with quantitive beta's. Express your fears, thoughts and frustrations with your doctors because they're definitly not mind readers (oh boy, could we get into trouble there... especially if they were hot like George Clooney on ER... fanning myself and panting! LMAO)
Truely hope GP offers some other alternatives for your body to process this... I know you want this over with and the ability to move on without it effecting TTC. I totally understand! (think we all do) Overall, it's definitly what is best for you and what you want. We're here and will support you in any decision you make
Praying that your body takes care of things naturally and quickly!

I was in the same boat in January. I want desperately to MC naturally. But I ended up spiking a fever, so they made me do a D/C. Afterward I was glad it was over, and wished I had done it when they first recommended it. In my opinion(now), if it's dead, I want it out of me ASAP, so I can move on and try again.

I'm with kim too, mine took 6 weeks to get back down to zero. it felt like forever, but it did happen. did they do an u/s to see what is going on in there. i remember my dr. could tell by looking at the lining of my uterus what was happening, and if there was any remaining tissue left inside. my personal opinion is to let your body do it naturally unless it becomes medically necessary to do the d&c. it's better for the body. but again that's just my opinion. good luck and hugs to you!!!!
