So I was doing some reasearch online and found a couple of articles where the following drugs can naturally increase hcg levels in your body and provide false positive pregnancy tests:

Medications that can increase hCG measurements include: I get migraine headaches and was taking promethazine for nausea during the time I got my last BFP (In July when I had the "chemical" pregnancy).

If this article is true is there a chance that I wasn't even pregnant and the medication was giving me false positives on FRER? It sort of makes sense as the m/s I thought I was feeling could have been related to the nausea I was feeling due to the migraine headache.

Oh, that is not good........ I wonder how many people (like yourself) would be/have been in the same situation. Unfortunately there is no way to tell for sure if it was the meds or a chemical pg. I'm sorry, I don't know what to say. *Hugs*

I just saw that the Promethazine - can increase or decrease hCG levels..... I wonder if that means a m/c or just gives a HCG reading less - IYKWIM?

Sounds like you may of stumbled on something Missy. Im sure this topic might help alot of women like yourself in the same boat with these medications. Certainly would rather have the medication do this than the inevitable. No migranes for you from now on, thats an order

Just lurking... I am so sorry for everyone's losses. I just wanted to say that when I was pregnant with my son and had m/s, my OB gave me promethazine (generic or phenergan) to help.. so I wouldn't think it would cause a m/c. I sure hope you figure out if that medication caused a false positive or not. Good luck!!!

I know you will never know for sure, but the possibility that it was the drug and not another miscarriage would give me some hope at least. **HUGS**

Thanks Ladies for all of your support! I stumbled across this last night and have given it a lot of thought. I just called my obgyn and asked the nurse about it and she said that yes, the medicine I took can cause a false positive on a pregnancy test. It has not been linked to miscarriage at all and is safe to take during pregnancy.

There is no way to go back a few months and test to see if that is exactly it but I am going to play doctor Missy and since AF was only 2 days late and my cycles off a little anyway I am going to chalk it up to false positives. It makes it all a little easier for me to swallow with 2 losses instead of 3 in the past year.

Anything is possible Missy and I'm glad that the information you found has made you feel a little more at ease & at peace.

I've been taking Ambien and no false positives here, no positives actually... not yet! LOL!
