I had a m/c on monday oct. 5 at nine weeks still very fresh and sad to me..I cant stop crying when I think about it. Anyways Ive never had a m/c before and Im not sure how long normal bleeding lasts? It hasnt stopped or let up at all? Is that normal? I thought I would let it go til monday (one week from m/c) then call the doc. What are your ladies experience?

Hi Jessica. I am so sorry for your loss! HUGS!!!! With my first m/c I bled for a few days really heavily and then it was just spotting, so it wasn't for very long. I was 12 weeks and basically once I passed the baby the bleeding slowed down significantly. The dr. told me that the bleeding could last 7-10 days, and if you soak more than 3 pads in an hour for 2 hours to go to the ER.
Are you in any pain? Was this a natural m/c or did you have a d&c? If it was natural do you think you passed everything? Sometimes a piece is left behind and that is what causes you to bleed for long.
I hope the bleeding stops soon!!!

It was a natural m/c. And I thought I had passed everything...the whole thing came out at once...but then yesterday I had another big piece of tissue came out. So Im hoping that it slows down now. I def havent been soaking 3 pads an hour thank heavens. But I have just been constantly bleeding. I want it to stop so I can have a regular period and try again..

I think once all the tissue is out your bleeding should definately slow down and probably stop within 5 days. Maybe check with your dr. if it hasn't slowed by end of next week. Have an u/s done to make sure nothing was left behind that could cause an infection. Once your hcg has gone back down to 0 you should O within 14 days and then get AF 2 weeks later (approximately). Depends on your body though. Some ladies have had really long cycles after their m/c. Hopefully yours will be back to normal quickly and you can ttc again. Good luck!!!

Hi Jessica - first let me say how sorry I am for your loss.

I had a natural m/c @ 10 weeks. I bled for about a week after the loss. Once I passed all the tissue, the heavy bleeding stopped and it was more like AF after that. If you are concerned you should call your Dr. My Dr. did an u/s to make sure that all of the tissue had passed and that I wouldn't need a D&C.

I would keep an eye on how heavy your bleeding is. I had a D&C with my first loss because I was having such heavy bleeding. My last one I m/c early and it was like a normal period. This time, I started spotting yesterday and it's still been light flow so far. We'll see how it goes. I haven't passed any clots yet and doctor saw a clot on u/s today so I know there is one to pass yet.

Hugs hun. I am sorry for your loss.

My first two losses I had D&Cs, and I bled for about one week heavily, and one week spotting. My third loss was early and a natural loss, and I bled for three weeks - very heavy. I couldn't believe how much blood I lost!

If you're in a significant amount of pain or loosing more than a pad an hour for three hours, then definitely go see the doctor ASAP. We're all different in how our bodes respond to a loss, but bleeding for a long time is unfortunately not uncommon. Still, if you at all concerned, call your doctor!
