So I got a UTi around O time. I went to the Dr to get some antibiotics and the gave me three days of Septra. Three days has never worked for me and I told him that, but he prescribed it anyway!! So now I'll have to go back and get another prescription! I am very frustrated with this... Is there anything else that would cause itching and burning while peeing?

What about a yeast infection? I had that last cycle. Drove me insane. I hope you feel better soon. Drink tons of cranberry juice.

I've never heard of Septra. I once had a recurrent UTI for 4 months straight!!! Finally the only thing that worked was Cipro. I don't remember itching (that does sound more like a yeast infection). The burning, however, was like peeing razor blades!! NOT FUN. The itching may be a side effect from the Septra, since antibiotics can cause yeast infections??? I hope you get better soon! Did your doc do a urinalysis for you?

Oh I hope you don't have both. I agree antiobiotics can give you yeast infections. Eat yogurt if you can. It should help. I hope you get better soon.

Sorry Erica, your not going to believe this, but I have never had a UTI! I havent even had a yeast infection since my late 20's! But I do remember the yeaties, and all I can say is the itiching was so bad, I was making googly eyes at my round bristol brush I was so desperate for the itching to go away......I hope you get rid of whatever it is you have soon so you can concentrate on EPS and not be distracted!

Oh, wait a second, the only time I ever got yeast infections was when I was pregnant, like right before the 5th. week, with 3 of my 4 kids! Could be......

i'm surprised... have you ever tried sulfa/trimetha as a 7 day course. It's typcially the standard in UTI care for those that can't beat it with the 3 day.

I am a PA (physician assistant) and itching is not a symptom of a UTI, sounds like a yeast infection, you can get a lot of yeast infection meds over the counter for that. If you truly feel that it is a UTI just call your doc back and let him or her know you are still symptomatic and they will just call you in a longer dose - Septra is a brand name of Bactrim or sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, which is the standard treatment of a UTI and 3 days is also standard, but some people need 7 to 14 days of treatment.

I was thinking yeast infection as well. I have had a resistant UTI before though. It's possible you have both a yeast infection and UTI at the same time. They should be able to do a culture though and know whether it's actually a UTI or not I would think.

Can you get a yeast infection in your urethra? I thought it was only a vaginal thing...
