Hi Ladies!
I have a quick question about the cervix... okay maybe a few questions.

I had a cervical biopsy in September because I have been having abnormal paps for some time now and they were considering the idea of cervical cancer. So last week I went for the results and my doctor told me that they found pre-cancerous cells on an area of my cervix, so that portion would need to be removed. I go for my surgery Dec. 16th.

My questions, though, are...
Is it possible for the cervix to regenerate itself? If they take a portion of it away, will it grow back, and if it does, how long will it take?
Also will this interfere with our plans to TTC starting in January? Has anyone else had part of their cervix removed and had a healthy pregnancy shortly after?
Sorry to bombard you all with questions, but this is what's on my mind today!!!!!
Any help would be appreciated!!!

I had cryosurgery on my cervix many years ago for pre-cancerous dysplasia. They basically just froze off the outer layer (both the outside and inside - required a bit of dilation) so the cells would die off with the hope that the new cells that grow would be normal. When I went back for a follow-up pap smear everything was fine. I don't remember exactly how long until everything was healed...I know I had some slight bleeding/spotting and brownish discharge for a few days and was told not to have sex for a couple of weeks to allow it to heal. For me, the worst part was the dilation and getting to the inner part of the cervix. But other than that it wasn't really a big deal. I don't know what your Dr. will recommend about TTC, but based on my experience, I would think that you would be fine by January. But mine was cryosurgery...if you are having another type the healing time may be different.

I am so sorry you have to go through this... HUGS... You really should ask you doctor some more questions they will be able to give you the best answers for your situation I would give their office a call and ask them to call you.. have some quesions ready, so you won't hang up and say darn I forgot to ask "this"...... From my understanding of cervical surgery... When it comes to being able to have a healthy pregnancy.. It will depend..... On a few issues.... If they are going to remove part of the cervix.. how much.... if they have to remove a large portion... You may never be able to carry a child. If it is a small area they have to remove.. they may be able to suture the cervix.

I was diagnosed with cancerous cells as a very young teen, they monitored me very closely, sent me all over the place and cannot remember the treatment... I guess I blocked that part out. However, I went on to have healthy pregnancies in my 20's. As far as I know it didn't hinder fertility, but at that age I wasn't trying to get pg either... so I don't know how long it would effect it either way.

I'm sorry I'm not allot of help...

I do remember asking a teacher of mine about it, he said his sister had cervical cancer and had a couple babies to that date.
