Hi ladies! Well, I had my doctor's appt today and we discussed the lab results from after my chemical pregnancy. Apparently I have two copies (I am homozygous) of the A1298C mutation of the MTHFR gene. All the other labs are fine. My OB said that he consulted with the high-risk perinatologist here in Fresno and she said the only treatment they do is to make sure I'm on folic acid, and since I have spina bifida, I am already taking 4 mg a day (10x the normal dose). He said he thinks I really have just had two cases of "dumb luck" and he expects I should have a successful pregnancy soon! He did say with this mutuation I am at higher risk for preclampsia in my 3rd trimester so he would monitor me closely, but that's it! I am going to google this further later, but since right now I am still awake from working last night, I am going to nap! Does anyone else have this, btw? Just curious!

Answers are good! Kary started a ttc group on JM for women with blood clotting mutations... you should head over there so we can have powers in numbers. I know there are women on this board who have MTHFR mutations. From what I understand (I went to a lecture on these last year in my dept), some mutations require more folic acid than others... it is all really fascinating really. Anyways, I'm sure the girls here can share their knowledge too!

Actually there are several that have this Jaque... Starrsgirl (Liz) & Kary I know for sure that do. From my knowledge and understanding taking baby asprin can help prevent some of the clotting by thinning the blood. During pregnancy they may put you on a daily shot to prevent clotting and successfully carry a babe. But there's also conflicting info out there where it's a hot topic of debate if it really increases a lady's risk of mc's or not. So I don't know where I'm on the fence with this... 1 baby asprin a day won't hurt tho!

Answers are good! Anything to prevent a possible loss, is always good. Especially when you just have to increase a vitamin, cant ask for better news than that!

Chicas!!! I am hetero (1 copy) of the C mutation (the other one...not the A mutation). The perinatologist that I saw said I have the lowest risk combination. However, i think it's important to share with both you and Kary that he said IF I was homozygous for the A mutation, I would do blood thinner injections. Since I just have the lower risk one, I take baby asiprin, B vitamins and 4mg of folic acid (that is a lot).

Thanks ladies!!! I'm wondering if I should maybe call back and ask if I can take the baby aspirin at least? He said it wasn't necessary but I'm nervous now. I just really don't want to go through another loss!

Maybe if he says he doesn't want you to do the aspirin you could check with another doctor and get a second opinion.

I totally agree. I think there are a lot of doctors that are under aggressive when it comes to miscarriage.
