I have Hashimoto (Autoimmune Thyroid) and Celiac (Autoimmune reaction to Wheat), so my OB referred me to a endocrinolgist to be checked out after the m/c. Today was my appt. and I love the Dr. - she is very knowledgable and listened to me. I know my thyroid levels are off because I have felt like crap, so I am glad I all ready had the appt.

Her first concern is my thyroid - there is some swelling and nodules, so I am having a sonogram of my thyroid Nov. 6. Treatment from there will depend on what she finds. Most likely - she will want to biopsy the nodules to rule out cancer. If there are no complications we should be cleared from there, but there is the small outside chance that they will do surgery. In which case - they really don't want me pregnant.

She is also checking vitamin b, vitamin d, and running a celiac panel to check antibodies. She wants my OB/Gyn to run the antibody tests now before I get pregnant again. She even said - normally they only run those after recurrent miscarriages, but I want you to have them now. I all ready have too many autoimmune things going on with me. So, I will schedule an appointment to have the antibodies run when I get back from out of town.

So it looks like Nov. will be wishful thinking for me while I stalk all you guys ttc! I hope I can still hang with you guys, even if I am not actively ttc.

Kat.

GL! Sounds like a good appt which can be so hard to find when it comes to your thyroid... I have Hashi's too! And it took a year to find the right dr.

((Hugs)) I am glad they are doing testing and hope that all goes okay with that and you don't need surgery. My boys (2 of them) have type 1 diabetes so they get tested for hashimotos and celiac disease once a year. Auto immune diseases just suck. I hope you get some answers.

Thank you to all of you. It means so much to have all the support. It has been a whirlwind day for me - started at the doctor and ended in Los Angeles, so I am just starting to really digest some of my appointment.

I honestly think the nodules will resolve with a change in meds. They are very common in Hashimoto and I have felt that my levels were off since I was pregnant in August.

I always knew that TTC would not come easy to me and that I had a higher risk of m/c and a much harder time ttc, which is one of the reasons I have waited so long. It just is a lot different when you are faced with you vereses, knowing it will be the case. I don't like having wait another month or two, but I know it is for the best. I think my biggest rush is the Holidays - I really dreaded going through the holidays not pregant and I was kind of hoping I would be pregnant again to take away some of that sting. At least I know that I always have you guys to lean on and I really appreciate it.

Kat.

Can I ask, how long have you been hypo? Were you hypo during your last pg? Did they test your thyroid levels after the pg? I'm asking b/c I completely understand what you have to deal with & I've actually been there. It's so hard to find a good dr to actually treat your thyroid... it took a year to find mine.

I had a goiter when I was first dx that disappeared with treatment (never had any nodules). BTW as you progress through TTC make sure you get your progesterone checked... that could be yet another problem you may have to deal with. I have learned that a progesterone defect is very common in us hypo ladies. Yay!

I also highly recommend, if you haven't read it already, this book... Amazon.com: Living Well with Hypothyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You... That You Need to Know (Revised Edition) (9780060740955): Mary J. Shomon: Books

Of course you may be more knowledgeable than I am on hypo depending on how long you have had it. If you are, just ignore me! I thought I'd throw a few things out there just in case any of it helps you!

BTW, there's also a thyroid disorders board on JM if you ever want to talk thyroid!

Amanda - I was diagnosed in May 2007. My TSH was rising when I found out I was pregnant in July. It had gone from .3 to .8, so it was not the cause of my m/c. My levels were not adjusted because it still very much normal. It has since gotten worse. I am now on my third Thyroid med. I started on Synthroid and had an allergic reaction. Then I started on Armour and have been OK on it, but I need my dose upped about every 6-9 months. I started Levoxyl (brand name) today because it is supposed to help shrink nodules and swelling better than Armour. She also said that Armour tends to invoke auotimmune reaction because of it is derived from pigs.

Thanks for the help. I have lurked on the Thyroid boards, but will probably head over there.

Kat.
