I've been taking a One A Day Women's multivitamin every day for about a week now. I was thinking about starting on a prenatal vitamin and folic acid supplement, but I don't know if I should take those in addition to the multivitamin or not. Does anyone know? Maybe reading the multivitamin's label will help..
Are your Daddy's to Be taking any supplements? I just read this article that suggested some vitamins that will improve male fertility. My DH is also taking a One A Day Men's multivitamin. I need to check the label to see if any of the suggested vitamins are in it! I wonder how DH will feel if I start pumping him up with a new vitamin regimen!

Okay, so I'm reading the label on my multivitamin now...
Folic Acid - 400mcg (same as article suggests)
B6 - 2mg (the article says up to 50mg)
B12 - 6mcg (the article says up to 50mcg to increase fertility in men)
Vitamin C - 60mg (article suggests 1000mg)
Selenium - 20mcg (article suggests 55-100 mcg)
Vitamin E - 20mg (article suggests 15mg)
Zinc - 15mg (same as article suggests)
It's looking like I should take either the multivitamin or the prenatal, but not both. I wonder which one would be better to take.. Also looks like I shouldn't take any folic acid in addition to the other vitamins.
Some of the numbers in the multivitamin aren't matching up with the suggested numbers in the article, so I'm guessing (hoping) that I'll get the rest of these vitamins from my regular diet..

I'm answering my own questions here.. Like I'm thinking outloud!
I did some more reading and it looks like I'll definitely be getting the prenatal vitamins ASAP. I compared the supplement facts of the prenatals to the ones of the multivitamin and the prenatals are much better. In case anyone else was wondering... This thread can basically be ignored now.

Glad you did some research! Yes the pre-nates are better. I take a pre-nate, b6 (100mg) and extra folic acid (400mg) plus a baby aspirin daily. The b6 supplement has increased my lp by 2 days, so thats why I take extra.

DH takes a multi and a calcium supplement due to lactose intolerance, I kept taking prenatals from when I was pg before m/c b/c the OB told me to keep the folic acid amount high in my system if we TTC soon which we are.

I've been taking prescription prenatals with extra iron since February. My Dr. recommends the prenatals even if you are just thinking about getting pregnant...it's good to have the high folic acid as well as generally being "healthier". I also take an extra B complex, a baby aspirin (sometimes), extra calcium and fish oil (I don't eat fish at all) for the omega 3s. DH takes a multivitamin daily (and other stuff - not sure what).

I take a prenantal... Extra Folic acid, and a Baby Aspirin. I would not take and Daily and prenantal... One or the other.. you can overdose on certain vitamins.. Folic acid is one that is water soluable.. and if you take too much.. your body will safley get rid of it.. other vitamins can build up......
Dh takes a daily mutivit... also.. I will be looking into the posiability of adding suplements.. Due to the SA results..

I take Vitamin E - 400mcg I think
Folic Acid - 1000mcg
Vitamin D & Calcium
Baby Aspirin
The reason why I don't take the multivitamin or prenatal is because they are so constipating.

My OB had me continue to take prenatals + DHA supp after my m/c, during our wait period and while we were TTCing (I use One a Day prenatals w/DHA). DH continued to take a multi-vitamin and a separate fish oil supplement, which his regular doctor recommended - no connection to TTC.
I'd definitely recommend either switching to a prenatal or doing the extra folic acid...I think my doctor's theory is that it can't hurt and since you don't know for a few weeks (she didn't realize what a crazy POAS addict i am!) that you're pregnant it gives you added protection just as conception is occuring. Good luck!!!

I wouldn't take a multi & a prenatal... that wouldn't be the way to go as vitamins can build up in your system and be toxic.
I take RAINBOW LIGHT Just Once Prenatal, Omega 3,6,9 all in 1 capsule & a sublingual B-complex. I haven't been taking baby asprin like I said I was going to this cycle... I started then stopped when I had a weird hives reaction. I've taken asprin before and never had a reaction, but didn't want to push it.
I also have fibromyalgia so I have to take pain meds, muscle relaxers, sleep aid & now a beta blocker... from what I've been told they're all safe for pregnancy.
