I was reading an article today about tipping during the holidays and how the economy is going to play into this.

Who do you plan on giving a tip to this year?

I am thinking:
- my postman
- The 2 doormen in my building that I like
- The boys doctor
- The lady at the drycleaners

In the past I've tipped the postman and the garbage man (my garbage man was exceedingly nice/flirty and would walk my trashcans back up the driveway which was well worth the tip! ). This year, my garbage man (completely different guy) got my old car sold for me, it had been sitting in my driveway for 6 months...he may deserve a tip too!

If you still get the newspaper, may I suggest a tip for your news carrier? Granted I'm a bit biased, as that is what I do to stay home with my DD, but I have to tell you that getting up at the butt-crack of dawn 365 days a year is very few people's idea of fun, plus rain or snow, etc. Just a thought............

The only tip my mail carriers would get are the kind that are not appreciated. Our mail boxes are at the bottom of the mountain and we frequently don't get mail that we KNOW has been sent. Last year, someone else (who amazingly knew DH's brother and recognized the last name) got my W2's!

That is crazy Augie. My postman is great. When I see him I say Hi Mr. Postman and he says hi Ms. Pretty lady - yup sucking up will get him a card and tip this year

Sorry Pixie, I don't get the newspaper but you brought up a good person to think of. Do people tip you year round or no?

Depends on the customer. Some that do tip monetarily all year will make us cookies or at least leave a card at the holidays. I'm not greedy, and if someone tips all year I don't expect more at holiday time. It's hard for me to keep track sometimes, as we have nearly 300 customers. I just made the suggestion because when it's someone you rarely see (if ever) I think they sometimes fall through the cracks.

The only holiday-specific tip that I give is to the guys who clean our house. Although I often wonder about that. Shouldn't they be giving me a tip for keeping them employed?

I always tip my hair stylist (but mostly 'cause she's my friend's SIL and doesn't charge me full rate).

I don't give special tips at Christmas. The people that I would tip (like the lady that cuts my hair) I tip all year round, and usually a decent size tip each time. I receive my mail at the post office, so I don't feel the need to tip them, (besides, they make more than I do!) and the garbage man on my route changes regularly so no tip there either.
