So my DH is mad at me.. He left the house to go to a friends.. Well as I kissed him bye and went to lock the front door my son ran into his bedroom and shut the door.. He normally does that, but has NEVER locked his bedroom door. Well today was the one day he did.. I locked the front door back and went to pick up his sippy cup out of the floor and I hear him start screaming and crying.. So I ran to his room. I tried to open it and it was locked.. So I calmy said Elijah sweety unlock the door.. Well he didn't.. He just started screaming and crying again. So I panicked thinking something happened to him and kicked his door in... I broke the wood around the door and the lock, but I got in.. Well I think Elijah was just scared cause he realized he was locked in and couldn't undo the lock.. I had a baby door thing on the back but DH took it off cause he said Elijah couldn't open his door if he shut it. So now DH is mad at me resfor breaking the door.. I mean what else could I have done.. This is a lock that requires a key, and I couldn't use a butter knife or credit card to slide in the crack cause of the wood.. So yeah I had to break the door, but the damage isn't that bad.. It can be fixed.. DH will just have to get over it.. Do any of you guys think I was wrong for doing this? My mom says I did the right thing.

What else were you supposed to do? Let him scream until DH got home and probably would have had to do the same thing? I think you did the right thing.

You TOTALLY did the right thing. Or should I say .. you did EXACTLY what I would have done! I am sorry DH is mad at you.. but he wasn't home. And you did what YOU could have done, the only thing you knew what to do, open the door in what ever means possiable! And Nothing stands between a momma and her cub!

Thanks ladies for making me feel better. Megan I can't take the lock off the door cause I would have to take the whole door knob off, but the good thing is since I broke it I don't have to worry about it anymore..LOL

You did the right thing and your DH will get over it. What if he was really hurt and you didn't kick the door in and something bad happend? men just think differently than girls. Even in the best of relationships, partners tend to upset each other at times. Good Job Lindsey

I would have done the same thing, doors can be fixed. What if god forbid something was wrong and you didn't kick in the door!?

You did what you had to do. Now you can replace the doorknob with one without a lock.
