Hi ladies, I have not been on much at all. I have been kinda depressed as this was my dd month. Dec 11th
Anyhow I wanted to ask a question. I have been concerned about progesterone levels. I have often wondered if that caused my last miscarriage. Several mths ago I had gotten a false postive and made an appt with my Dr. I wanted him to test my progestrone levels to make sure all was ok. The nurse told me that he did not feel inclined to test levels at that time. I just feel this is something that should be checked out so that if it is the problem I dont have another m/c. Is there a reason you think that he wouldnt test for this? How would I go about getting it tested? Should I go to another Dr? I do love my Dr though. He is awesome and was so kind during my m/c. I really dont like his staff though. Whole other story.

I have regular periods and all and dont really have any issues as far as my cycle goes. Is it still possible to have low progestrone levels? I would just really like to rule this out.

Hope everyone is having a great Holiday Season.

I don't know the answer to your question but am eager to see everyone else's reponses. After my loss in October, I asked my OB about testing hormones (i.e. progesterone) and he said since I had normal periods he wasn't concerned about it. I hope you get your sticky BFP soon!

I know with my OB.... with my 2nd loss... my levels were just fine. When I got preg in Aug.. they tested my levels and they were borderline low. (My OB always tests.. HCG and Progesterone together to verify pregnancy) Now if you look around.. (Just like so many others things..) You will find sites that say Progesterone should be started with in 24 hours of Ovulation. Any thing past that it might be too late. Than others say if the progesterone levels don't rise.. it is do to the fact the pregnancy wouldn't of made it anyway. And it is not LOW progesterone that causes the m/c... it is the m/c that causes the the low progesterone. With al that being said...

My OB still put me on the progesterone.. as a, as he put it ... we are grasping at straws... So after my Ultrasound.. I was told to start on Tues... So I did... and the IPS were awful! If I wasn't one the progesterone.. I would have swared I was pregnant.. but my temps were not high enough... So I stoped it.. and my temps are plumiting....

Now... a question for you... did you have your pregnancy that resulted in your loss confirmed by blood work? And did they test your progesterone with that pregnancy? If they did that might give you an idea what your levels were than.

I'm honestly not sure but I do understand. If he won't test them I would honestly find another dr myself. I've heard to many stories of m/c's b/c of progesterone & even with a history of m/c's some dr's just won't test them. I can't imagine WHY he wouldn't.

If you are really concerned make an appointment and speak to your dr. directly, don't go through his staff. And let him know how concerned you are and that it would make you feel much better if he could test your progesterone to make sure that it's okay. Some dr. don't believe in supplements, so maybe that is the case here. Good luck!

how long is your lp? usually low progesterone manifests by a shorter LP.

You know what is really strange, is that with my last pregnancy they did not do blood work to confirm the pregnancy. I had told them I wanted to confirm it when I first made my first appt and they told me they did not do blood work to confirm. It was weird. I guess they use the home test in the office to confirm. So I have no idea what the levels were in the beginning. When I found out that the baby didnt have a heartbeat then I asked for a hcg level test to make sure the levels were going down. Now I have no idea if that includes the progesterone or not.

My cycles are pretty normal and its usually every 28 days. I am also very very sick durning the first 12 wks of pregnancy so that could mean my levels are just fine. Not sure.

I do love my Dr but have wondered if I should go somewhere else for the testing I want. I could make an appt with him and talk directly to him but it takes forever to get into see him and the staff ask why you are making an appt and if I tell them for progestrone testing then they probably would not make my appt. So not sure what to do. I could take the over the counter progesterone just in case but most of it has other stuff in it that I dont want to take.

Have they ever checked your progesterone level 7 days after O? My first OB NEVER did so I switched to an OB who actually knew a little something about infertility & he tested my progesterone (on CD 23 before I ever got pg) & we learned that I have a progesterone defect, i.e. weak ovulation. I know we're both hypo & I have also learned that progesterone defects are common for us (hypo patients). I also had absolutely no clue I could have a progesterone defect b/c like you my cycles are regular & I actually had a normal LP of about 12 days. If you've never had it checked, I would but that's just my opinion! I hope you can get it all figured out soon!
