Hi, so I"m pretty new around the board and have been very confused about what is going on with my body. Long story short, I have been bleeding for 8 and a half weeks since my miscarriage began (some heavy, some light, no days without any). My levels were checked:
7 weeks ago 40,000
6 weeks ago 4,000
3 weeks ago 40 and my doctor declared it low enough to stop testing
Yesterday I went in to see the doctor because the bleeding has still not stopped. Well, she checked my hcg again and I just heard that the level is now 97. Huh? What does it mean that my level has risen but I am still having some bleeding every day. We were cleared to bd about a month ago, so a pregnancy is possible. Or could it be a second loss back to back?
I go for more bloodwork tomorrow but won't have any results until Monday. Any clue what might be going on?
Thanks!

I am so sorry for your loss...
Have they done an ultrasound to make sure you don't have retained tissue? Some time retained tissue can still produce HCG.. and make your levels.. go up even when they seemed to be going back down. If you are still bleeding.. this could be a real posiability... Or if you have been bd in the last 3 weeks... you very well might have ovulated and this is a new preganancy. Have you been taking HPT's? If so... have you gotten a Negative HPT? If you never got a negative HPT.. I would lean to the first of the above senerio's... Please KUP... I wish thier was a cut and dry answer. HUGS

I had continued bleeding after my d&c Nov 6th so my ob did an u/s to make sure nothing was left when I went to my follow up appt. It had been just under 2 weeks and he said that was on the high end of normal. It was not heavy but it just continued on and then I started cramping really bad. At first it looked like a clot trying to pass so we waited a week and he did another u/s and it looked less like a clot so we did a repeat d&c on Dec 4th. He used u/s guidance that time and said it seemed like it was a clot as well as some tissue. They did a urine pregnancy test when I had the prelab work done the 2nd time and I tested neg. I have heard that tissue can keep your hcg from dropping. My bleeding after the repeat d&c, was different. Nothing for the 1st couple days and then like a period for 5-6days and then it stopped. But with as long as it has been since your loss, it would seem that pregnancy is also possible. I hope you can get some answers soon.

Thanks ladies. I have not been in for an ultrasound since the bleeding started (although I was in a couple of times before that). I do have a referral to go in for one, but my doctor wants to wait for the test results to come in next week. She seems very casual about it all, but I think it's time to be insistant about figuring out what's really going on.

Well, here is my update:
*hcg Weds 97
*hcg Fri 103- so not dropping, but not really rising enough that its likely to be a new lasting pregnancy
*results from biopsy (checking for another source of bleeding I think, not really sure)- not in yet
* scheduled an ultrasound for today at 4:00 but my doctor thinks we may not see anything
So.... I'm still just as confused and my doctor seems to be unsure about what is going on. I am very ready for this to be over! But when my doctor is still mentioning the possibility of a new pregnancy, I want to be sure. So, any advice? Any questions I should ask?
Thanks!

I'm so sorry sweetie. I know this has to be such a roller coaster for you. If they don't see anything on the u/s, I would DEFINITELY keep getting my blood drawn to see if they are indeed rising or start dropping.
Good luck and let us know!

HCG on friday..103.. up only 6... Not a real good sign if it is a new pregnancy.
As for the U/S they wont see anything untill your numbers are above 15000. They might be looking for tissue that is producing HCG since that can happen. The only thing I can tell you is to push for more blood work in a few days.. That way if it is a new pregnancy the numbers will deffiantly higher. If it is just tissue... they will not show alot of change in your HCG. I am sorry you have to go through this roller coaster of emotions.... HUGS

Ann there's so many possibilities that I would not even want to begin to theorize as to what they might be, for now I think you're taking the best course of action which is following up with your doctor. The u/s might be very helpful if there is any retained tissue and to check your "bits n pieces" (ovaries, uterus, cervix) I'm sorry that there's so much confusion with your numbers, the bleeding. Certainly hope you get some answers.
I had a confusing situation like you Ann... long story short; loss in July and had gotten pg immediately after my loss... It confused us and sent us a roller coaster. I hope that today's appointment gives you answers and that you're ok!!! Please update us when you can and feel up to it.
