Ok, I know the darkness of a line in theory should not be related to the amount of hcg, rather the amount of dye in the test, BUT...

On Saturday (9/1) and Sunday , I used 2 FRERs, both were VERY faint positives, visible, but faint. I took one digi and it was negative. The FRER I took on the Tuesday was slightly darker, and the digi was positive. I had a blood test on the same day which showed a hcg level of 35.

I started spotting on the Thursday (2 days before I got my BFP) and it turned to red blood the following Wednesday (the day after my blood test)... ok, I went to the hospital, having bled (still bleeding at that point) heavily. The Dr checked my cervix and it was CLOSED.

The following day I went for an ultrasound, but before that, I tested, and I have NEVER had a line pop up so quickly (as the dye moved along the test) and it was so so dark. The ultrasound showed some pregnancy tissue (0.76cm) but nothing else. She said if there was a viable pregnancy, she'd expect to see a sac (I'd have been 4w3d)...

I have some very silly questions....

Is it possible that at 4w3d it'd be too early to see anything on an ultrasound?

How was I losing so much blood if my cervix was closed? (My bleeding didn't change... I bled the same amount for 24 hours before the internal, and a day or 2 after...)

Why would a test suddenly show such a dark line, 36 hours AFTER my m/c was in full swing? I'd been spotting for days before this too...

I KNOW it's over, I think :s but I need you ladies to tell me to move on... I feel like I can't have closure until someone tells me there's no possible chance the Drs were wrong.... ugh I feel so stupid writing this.

Are they going to draw more betas???? Have you tested again??? I have known the last two of pregnancies were over do to the line not getting darker... (Yes some tests have more dye than others) But when you test and the line get lighter, and lighter..... that is not dye.... and it wasn't. While no this is not the tell all end of it.. you really need to have blood tests to make sure your numbers are droping.... While yes they should see a sac.... If they saw something they should just follow up... I would call and tell them you are still getting blaring + tests... and ask them if they can follow up with your care. Please KUP... HUGS

oh hunny
i know this is really hard for you and i really dont blame you for being confused!
have they told you what to do next? are you having another scan or blood tests or anything?

it could be that you Od later than you think, at scans they can be wrong, with kara i was told i had lost baby and they wanted me to have an op to remove everything (i also had a egg implant on my ovary to complicate things but i was also 4+3!) i held off and 2 days later a scan showed 2 babies growing in my uterus, they were wrong with me!

im not trying to raise your hopes again as i know that would only go to hurt more but they cant just leave you like this, they really have to make things very clear!
have you taken another test?
personally i would take another one and see the results and if it came up like that again i would be right on the phone asking wth is going on and for more tests to be done!

i am watching for updates from you hunny
xx
just to add, i am still bleeding now at 13 weeks because of a clot and at 8 weeks i was taken in for a scan because my bleeding was so bad! if your cervix is closed it usually means everything is ok or everything is completely over in which case you shouldnt still be bleeding!
the first thing my doc checked when he couldnt get me in for a scan that day was my cervix and his words were "well your cervix is closed so im positive all is ok there "

I'm sorry, but at 4wks 3 days the only thing they should have even been able to see is the lining of your uterus thickening (that I was told by 4, 5 different doctors)

That is too early on to see anything and your dates could be slightly off; anything is possible, but I would still get my beta's drawn and be monitored closely. There's no telling if it's over or not and with a fast, dark + hpt I wouldn't assume it's over.

So what are your plans? Are you going to be going to your OB/GYN doc and what have they said they were going to do? Please give them all the information including the tests you've taken and if you have to go get a 2nd opinion if you think you're not getting the care you need.

I've had friends bleeding like a period thru their pregnancies up until 6 months! (various reasons... placenta previa, SCH, clots, partial abruptions)

Interesting. I am also wondering if you have tested lately? And if they have drawn blood again?

As far as the tests...they DO get darker with the more hcg you have. That happened with my daughter and even with this last one that I lost. There ARE things that make the line vary , tho, like how long you waited to pee and how much water you drank because those things will lessen the amount of hcg in your urine. Then there are some tests that have more/less dye in them as well.

With that said...I also know that even if you are bleeding people's bodies can still be a little behind on the hcg and can get positive tests for a while. Especially if there is still tissue. So I would be asking for more tests to make sure of what is going on.

I also was wondering if your dates were wrong and you O'd later than you thought...anyway (((HUGS))) to you. Please KUP if you do get any answers from your doc on these questions.

at 4 weeks they can see the sac but probably nothing in it yet. so it's too early to see a fetal pole or heartbeat.

It took my body 4 weeks to m/c from when the ultrasound showed the baby had died. I had VERY VERY dark pregnancy tests for the whole 4 weeks too. my hcg didn't drop till my body really started to abort the fetus. I spotted for 2 weeks before this happened. Then after my body m/c'd, it took another 6 weeks for my preg tests to be neg. I had high hcg, but pregnancy wasn't viable.

I'm so sorry hun. I won't tell you to move on. I will tell you what I did... KEEP the faith until God tells you otherwise!!! praying for you!

Ever person on hear will give you different stories, experiances, and so on... You really need to just call your Dr.

This is what I found when I was looking up things for my self after my first m/c... and when things should be seen....

This is a great site that shows... what should be seen and when and sizes....

My Drs are not worth bothering with. When I asked for the blood draw (last Tuesday) it took 2 days to get the results back - he didn't even class that as urgent.
When I asked the consultant about the difference in test he brushed it off quite abruptly, I didn't go any further with it.
With my last m/c, I didn't test negative until 2 weeks after.. so I fully accept that it takes levels a while to drop. But I'd been spotting since the Thursday, which turned to red blood the following Wednesday, so I can't work out why 2 days after that, it would be higher than ever.
Ugh. I'm gonna get a test, and see how that looks... I think I know I have bled too much for anything be ok. But the fact my cervix was closed mid-flow! How can the blood come out...???? I feel so rediculous.
Thanks for the support and advice girls... Kary, I will check that website out, thank you.

I thought they'd do another blood test to be sure my levels were dropping.. but I only had the one.

Just because the cervix is closed dosen't mean you can't bleed... It is not closed as in sealed shut... Just like when you check your cervix.. and it is open/medium/closed... "stuff" can still get in an out. So blood can seep out. Since it is not "open" means that it is not going through the "whole" m/c prosses. I never had an "open" servix until 4 weeks after I was told my numbers were not rising, I bleed very lightly for 2 days... my cervix continued to be closed for 4 more weeks.

If you continue to bleed. I would call the OB and tell them you are still bleeding VERY heavy (even if it is not) Just to get you in!!

HUGS... I am so sorry you are going through any of this.

Thanks again Kary, I'm just not familiar with the whole CP and open/closed thing.. I think I just need to tell myself that everything CAN be explained.. I'm just having a silly moment of questioning everything...

No it is not silly! It is your body, it is your baby, it is your responsibility to be your advocate and make sure you have done everything that you can to get answers.. It makes you a smart woman to make sure you have left no stone uncovered... and you know that when the day is sone you can rest knowing you have done all that can be done! I just wish I had better answers for you... But with everyone being do different.. and so people have miracle stories.. while others have horrors... it can all be overwhelming... HUGS

You could have a subchorionic hematoma (a blot clot in the uterus) that causes you to bleed. I'm sure there are other reasons as well besides a m/c like: a tear in the cervix, an irritated cervix, a UTI etc. There is also a possiblity of multiples and losing one, which would cause you to bleed.
I would definately go see another dr. and get your beta checked as well and ask for another u/s....even if you have to go to the ER.
I really hope that your baby is okay...don't give up hope yet!!! HUGS!!!!

Top test - Day of blood test. HCG 35, been spotting on and off for a few days. 14dpo???
Middle test - 3 days later, 36 hours after red blood started, day of scan which showed nothing except a tiny bit of "tissue"
Bottom test - Today. 7 days since red blood started. 4 days since it eased off to spotting. No bleeding at all for 2 days.

I know it takes time... I realy do accept that, I just wished it would have at least looked similar to the first test (when I know my hcg was low!) I feel like I'm never going to O

I also can't help but get my hopes up even tho there's still enough time for my levels to drop, it's only a week since everything. Ugh

I'm not sure!! My Dr told me I was "probably" miscarrying and my hcg level was too low. The Gynae said my cervix was closed but there was obviously blood there. The u/s lady said she couldn't find any evidence of pregnancy (17dpo) but there was some "tissue" in my uterus. Then the consultant said I'd miscarried based on the u/s results. I had about 2 days worth of "period-like" bleeding. So all in all I'd say I have... I need to accept that. But part of me isn't so sure!!!!

I don't truly think I have a chance that I'm still pg. I don't know why I'm obsessing over this I just don't know what to do about it except stress here! I guess my Dr will say it's only been a week since the m/c and I will still show pos etc... ugh I don't know.
Thanks for taking the time to reply girls. Can't seem to get a grip on things!!!

Well, its hard when you hear stories of women bleeding a lot and then have healthy babies and then maybe it is left over Hcg. So I totally understand why you're stressing, I would be too! Too bad your doc isn't more understanding. Seems like he/she would have you come in so you could know either way.
