He's my general doctor. Not an ob. What do I need to ask him? I would need a referral to an ob or somebody like that right? I want to get my issues sorted out asap. I give up on waiting for my body to sort this out by itself.
A friend of mine brought up cysts. Question for you ladies who had/have them: I always thought they're painful. What did the doctor do for you once cysts were confirmed?
What kinds of tests should I expect while trying to pin down my issues whatever they are?
Thanks ladies!

I had a cyst and they didn't do anything for it. It was very painful just gave me a shot to help with the pain. They did an u/s to find it. I don't think it messed with my cycle though.
Also about an ob I don't think you need a referral unless your ins. requires it. Something to check into!

I don't think I have a cyst. He said it's possible, but unlikely because I'd be really sick and in pain. I'm not either of those things.
I don't really know about all the insurance stuff. I guess he'll do what he's gonna do. All I want to make sure is there's no baby in there before I start getting treated for whatever it is. I think an ultrasound is the best way to do that.

Sky - you are having super long cycles right? I have tried to keep up with your posts.
Some insurance companies require a referral to an OB, but a lot do not anymore. It should be in your paperwork or you can call the 800 number and they can tell you.
Just to give you an idea - I have not had a period since the m/c (9/2). The Dr. had me wait 12 weeks, then put me on progestone for 2 weeks - still no AF, so I went back earlier this month and she did a full hormone panel. Estrogen, FSH, Progesterone, and prolactin. I also had a hysteroscopy done (I think it cleared away a small blockage b/c now I have AF) and now I am on estrogen for 30 days and another 14 day progesterone challenge. She said if this doesn't work I am off to the RE.
Good luck and feel free to ask me if you have any questions.
Kat.

no idea. It's just a small doctor's office, so i doubt he even has that stuff. The nearest hospital with an ob is over an hour away.

What's a hysteroscopy?
I know as soon as I told them I was pregnant and they confirmed with the bw, they sent me to an ob right away. I haven't taken a close look at my insurance paperwork. My husband has it somewhere. I'll ask him to find it for me so I can look.
I would like to know what to expect in terms of tests because I am afraid of all things medical. I don't panic anymore, but I still get really nervous.
My cycles have been like 8-9 weeks long. The last period (forgot when it was-how sad is that) was so freaking light I almost don't even want to call it a period. I never cramped (normal af for me) and it was barely more than spotting. I don't know.. I'll find out on the doc appointment and post here when i know.

I would think today they will only draw blood work, especially if it is a regular doctor.
The Hysteroscopy is a small camera inserted through the cervix to look at the uterous, ovaries etc. I was put under general anesthia for the procedure. It was done to see if there was any scarring from the d&c that was limiting my blood flow.
good luck and KUP

Having a cyst, if you mean on the ovary, doesn't always cause pain or make you sick. I have one on my left ovary and getting it removed tomorrow. I learned about my cyst when I was pregnant with my girls back in 2008 and it's been watched since. When it was first discovered it was 3cm, now it is 5cm with nodules growing inside of it. The Dr.'s and me don't believe it is cancer, but it's not a "normal" cyst that should sit there. Recently I had pain during sex that made me want to get a more in depth over view of it and that's what led to it's removal. Other than that, I have no clue it is there. If you have other types of cysts that aren't causing issues, then the Dr. won't do anything. There are a few different types of cysts and certain ones need to be monitored for growth. It's a questions you should ask. It's simple to see if you have cysts on your ovaries. It is possible for them to cause irregular periods.
I don't know that your regular Dr. can really help you with these issues and he/she may suggest an OBGYN or another Dr. He/she can run blood tests and recommend what he/she thinks is wrong. Also, not all insurance companies require a referral. Mine doesn't, so I can go to whatever Dr. I need to when ever I need to.
I hope you get some answers .

I guess we'll see.
I never had a d&c. Everything passed naturally. I don't know what they're gonna be looking for.

I guess we'll see. I know that as soon as I found out I was pregnant the first time, the doctor confirmed with bw and referred me to an OB right away.
Good luck with your cyst removal. I wonder if that's what I've got.
