Anyone know anything about it i have been wondering about this since someone brought it up about 6 or 7 months ago when i was talking about my charting my temps cause they were always really low and always run around 96-97 and when im sick my fever is like 99 to 100 and thats high for me. now i do have pcos so i dont know if that could cause it but all of the symptoms that i read about hypothyroidism i have except the decreased libido. i always thought that it all had to do with my pcos and the weight loss i have had since i went on my diet.

Also does it cause you to have issues with pregnancy?

i am hypothyroid. my tsh is 6 something and they want you to be around 2. i am on 50 mcg. a relatively low dose.

if you are very low thyroid it can cause infertility problems as well as mental retardation in pregnancy.

i got pregnant before i was treated. i ended up being treated when i was very early into my pregnancy. my levels were perfect while pregnant.

if you suspect it, talk to your gp. have him/her test you for t3, t4, tsh and free thyroid.

I have Hashimoto's, which is autoimmune hypothyroidism. Untreated hypothyroidism can cause problems with fertility and 2nd & 3rd trimester pregnancy. A lot of doctors will tell you that unless your levels are way out of line, then it won't cause a miscarriage, but google will give you a different story.

Some people have subclinical hypothyroidism, which means your labs are on the upper range but you have symptoms that are bothersome.

The test is a simple blood test. The lab should check for TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone (very similiar to FSH - it is the hormone that signals the thyroid to produce more), Free T3 and Free T4. It is important that the lab uses the newer ranges of .3 - 3.0 for TSH established in 2003 by the American Assoc. of Endocrinoligist. My endocrinoligist prefers to keep the TSH around 2.0, especially when TTC.

What is the Optimal TSH Level for Thyroid Patients?

Feel free to ask me any questions. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, so I have been dealing with it a while. Oh yea - my pre o temps are 96.2 - 96.8 and post o range from 97.4-97.8.

Kat.

I have it to. I often wonder if it had something to do with my miscarriage. I get scared thinking it did because I dont want to have another one. Has anyone had a successful pregnancy with this? The weird thing is I had my miscarriage a week after my Dr lowered my thryoid meds. I had changed Dr's after the miscarraige and he then upped it back to what it was and said it should of never been lowered. Although would not admit that was what caused my miscarraige.
So this really makes me nervous.

I was diagnosed hypothyroid 12 years ago. I got pregnant with my daughter about 6 weeks after starting the meds, and had an uneventful pregnancy.

I went several years without it being treated due to lack of insurance, and it definitely caused some major problems "down there". I was actually able to have my TSH level tested at a Family Planning clinic, it cost me $30-35. My TSH was around 8.4, so I am severely hypo! I am currently taking 100 mcg and have to go in next week to have my levels checked again.

I am always colder than normal too.

I do not have it, but one of BF's does. She also has Celiac disease (it is common to see them together). Just for some hope...she has gotten pregnant 3 times...2 times while NOT on medication. She only had one loss...however it was VERY early and most likely was NOT due to her health issues. Probably just chrom issues like the majority of early m/c.

Good luck to all of you!

I too have hypothyroidism, well i'm not sure if I do now, since I actually don't have a thyroid anymore (I got it taken out in September)....I did have 2 pregnancies where I was hypo, and was put on a low dose of thyroid meds...My son's pregnancy turned out fine and I didn't even start my meds right away...This pregnancy I called the day that I got my positive test and went and got my blood taken...they have now put me on 175mcg of thyroid meds...I have to go get my blood taken monthly from now on...I too am also super cold since having no thyroid...I can never get warm and I have to take hot showers just to feel comfortable....I don't think it would hurt to go get your thyroid tested right now, it would probably be the best thing to do...GL
