I have Hashimoto's, which is autoimmune hypothyroidism. Untreated hypothyroidism can cause problems with fertility and 2nd & 3rd trimester pregnancy. A lot of doctors will tell you that unless your levels are way out of line, then it won't cause a miscarriage, but google will give you a different story.
Some people have subclinical hypothyroidism, which means your labs are on the upper range but you have symptoms that are bothersome.
The test is a simple blood test. The lab should check for TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone (very similiar to FSH - it is the hormone that signals the thyroid to produce more), Free T3 and Free T4. It is important that the lab uses the newer ranges of .3 - 3.0 for TSH established in 2003 by the American Assoc. of Endocrinoligist. My endocrinoligist prefers to keep the TSH around 2.0, especially when TTC.
What is the Optimal TSH Level for Thyroid Patients?
Feel free to ask me any questions. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, so I have been dealing with it a while. Oh yea - my pre o temps are 96.2 - 96.8 and post o range from 97.4-97.8.
