After my first u/s I knew that something was wrong with the pregnancy.. My last period was Dec 1st 2009 and I should have been at least 7 weeks. I was only measuring 4-5 weeks. But my betas all looked good so the doctors and nurses told me not to worry. After a trip to the ER January 30th because of some minor cramping, no bleeding ( I was just looking for a reassuring u/s really) after the u.s I was informed I was only measuring 5 weeks 5 days and only the yolc sac was visable just like the u/s I had January 19th. I had betas done and they were 32,000 I was told not to give up hope yet but after todays betas that were only 31,000 something I was informed that indeed Im miscarrying. Im having some intense menstrual cramps but NO bleeding. In 2003 I found out at 13 weeks I had miscarried and had a d & c done. My question is should I go ahead with another d&c? Ive heard alot of bad things about them and Im terrifed that I wont be able to concieve after another and it will lead to more miscarriages.. Is there any truth to this? I want to miscarry naturally but my cervix is still completelty closed and no signs of bleeding and dont think I could handle going naturally physically or mentally. Any thoughts?

First off HUGS.. I am so sory for what you are going through.....

With a D/C thier is always a chance of something going wrong..... As for Natural.. you may not expell everything.. and require a D/C anyway.....

I had a d/c Feb 6th last year.... I than concieved again in Aug.. M/C in Sept and choose to have a natural m/c... why... my first it took my body about 5 months to get back to some type of normal.... But It took my over 5 weeks to m/c natural.... So thier is benifits and downs to both.... it is such a personal choice.... Both were ust as hard Mentally.... (Well I think the d/c was worse).... I was sick with m/s very bad before my d/e..... and It was very hard to be put through the whole thing..... But natural... was hard also... I couldn't have tests done to find out what was wrong, and that waiting for my numbers.. blood work every week, than to finaly have it over... over 5 weeks.... After my d/e... af showed in 35 days....

I hope this helps a little... HUGS...

It's definitely a personal choice, but if there's no medical need, I personally would avoid it. Hope that makes sense... some ladies need them because things aren't going naturally or there's retained tissue, some doctors do it routinely either way.... I was told/advised by a few different doctors if I want to preserve my fertility as much as possible that I should opt for natural or non-surgical methods. So I opted for non-surgical.

Does your doctors office offer medication to help along the process after the definitely confirm miscarriage? That could be another option if you wanted to avoid surgery. It's worth checking into, but the choice is different for each of us for sure.

Sometimes it's nice to have the instant gratification of having it "over & done with" so you can move on, but it's different each time and for each person.

I'm sorry you have a difficult choice to make right now during this devastating time. It's NEVER easy, but hopefully your doctor along with you can help you decided the right plan of action to go along with your concerns & feelings.

BTW, to TTCAL and I'm sorry for your painful losses!

Unfortunately I ask about the medicine to speed up the natural m/c and my dr doesnt offer it!!
There are so many risks with both options. I really dont think I could handle the wait of waiting to start miscarrying on my own. It could be weeks.. Or I could not even pass on my own. This is such a tough decision and I just dont know what to do...

I am in the same situation .. . . well, this is my first . . . . I am giving my body 3 weeks . . . the doctor said that is the longest I should wait. This Thursday is 2 weeks for me and I have the D&C scheduled for next wednesday. I am PRAYING that it happens naturally before then, but so far, NO signs of it coming . . . . it is a very personal decision . . . talk to your dr. it is my understanding that while a d&c can cause problems with future pregnancies, waiting too long and letting the baby and tissues sit in the uterus too long can cause problems with future pregnancies too. I hate that I even have to make this decision . . as Im sure you do too . . . . just do whatever you think will be what you are most comfortable with . . .

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I was diagnosed with a m/c on a Thursday and scheduled to meet with the the nurse at the pregnancy loss clinic the next day to discuss my options. However my body didn't let me wait that long and I had a natural m/c literally 1 hour before my appt.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long.

i am so sorry you are here, but glad you found us.

what a hard decision. here is my thought process when i went thru it.....

when i found out my baby of 8+4 had no hearbeat it was a thursday night. i was told it may happen tomorrow or it might take 2 weeks. joy. in my mind i decided to give it a week and ahalf. if nothing happened i was going to make an appt for a d&C.

the spotting started tuesday afternoon, peaked on thursday/friday and was completely over by the following thursday. so from begining to end it took 10 days.

give it a bit..... the least amount of trauma you put on that area the better if you can help it. give your self a deadline - if you dont make it - go for the d&c....

the waiting sucked.... it really really did, but now that it is over, i really am very very glad it happened naturally.

big huge hugs. i am so very sorry for your loss.
