I have returned from my Dr. appt. All my tests were normal, except the MTHFR mutation - I am homo for the A1289C gene. My OB/GYN admitted that she didn't know much about it and referred me to a hematolgist (March 1st is my Appt.)

The good news - progesterone was 17.2 on 5 DPO, FSH 2.2 and LH 2.7 and estrogen less than 0.1 so at least my hormones are doing what they are supposed to do, even if the rest of me is not! She also considers the bleeding after the hysteroscopy a period, so as soon as my next AF arrives, we are back on the TTC wagon!

Wow - this has been a long journey - almost 6 months post m/c I am just now starting to TTC again. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how bad you want something, it is not always in my time, but rather the right time.

Kat.

Kat, so glad to hear about great results........although, if you dont mind, Im gonna ask about your estrogen....your 5dpo estorgen was less than .1? That does not sound right at all......When they were monitoring my cycles, 7dpo estrogen was always in the 150's which my RE considered normal range...... At the time of "o" they were 250-300, then naturally they dip a bit, but never as low as what you are saying. .1 seems like a converted number maybe or just nor right. Can you ask her about that number?

Your prog. sounds fantastic!!! As well as the other levels........maybe its different when your on the supplements for estrogen?

Kary - I will PM you for your research. Trying to explain this to DH is going to be fun.....

Lori - I was only on the estrogen post hysteroscopy to prevent an adhesion from growing back. I was not on it when I have the tests done. The lab values for Estriol - is <0.10 NG/ML which is the normal range for nonpregnant females. Pregancy females 1st trimester is 1.60 NG/ML.

I also just noticed Protien C is on the low end of normal - 76 with normal being 70 - 180. Not sure what that means. Protien S was similiar - 71 with normal being 60 -140

GOOD, Kat I'm glad you have gotten your labs back and have some sort of answer! Glad she's referring you to a hematologist so that there can be a plan of action for you TTC! I'm sorry it has taken so long, but I'm glad you've gotten the answers.

There are ALLOT of women that have that mutation and I think the treatment is fairly simple... baby asprin, but there it more to it than that and I would definitely do some reading and find out what the blood doc has to say.

So glad your labwork came back, Kat!!! I, like Kary, am homozygous for the same mutation. I'm on baby aspirin- my old OB said it wasn't necessary, my new one says it's a good idea, so I'm sticking to it! I hope we both get our sticky BFP's soon!

Just posted updates in the cycle threads, but I will update here, too. Cycle day 1 today, so I am officially TTC again! Dang - it feels good to say it.

Just wanted to throw in what my doctor told me......my perinatologist diagnosed me with being hetero for the C mutation of the MTHFR. He said IF I was homo for the A type mutation, he would have put me on blood thinners/i.e. injections.

For mine right now, I take baby aspirin, very high doses of folic acid and B vitamins. All 3 help prevent clotting at the smallest level.

Keep us posted and good luck to you!

Kat - I am super happy for you! And I would like to say your FSH levels are super low which is awesome! Mine were 6.6 and my doctor thought that was great!

Come on BFP!

That is interesting - I guess I had just assumed that with the A mutation was milder than the C, but maybe that was just because you read so much about the C and there is not much on A. The thought did not occur to me either that I might need to be seen by a perinatologist when I get pregnant. I won't share that one with DH just yet - it will just scare him.

Thank you for sharing it. I am anxious to hear what the hematologist will say about it.

Missy - I guess the low FSH explains why I ovulate so early in my cycle - usually day 10 or 11!

Kat.

It might not be fair to say that the A is "worse"....but the A mutation has been more strongly linked to miscarriage than the C mutation in research (the very limited research that is out there). I enourage you to keep reading and asking questions. In these cases involving miscarriage, we are talking about a mutation that might cause microscopic blood clots. Not an issue for you as an adult (usually) but an issue for tiny tiny vessels in the baby. HOWEVER, some doctors and researchers think that being homo for the A mutation may put you at a slightly higher risk for blood clots yourself. I will say that not every doctor agrees on this and I don't know what the right answer is either....but at least it's more information for you to consider.

Obviously, there is some debate on both mutations. I've done a lot of independent research and agree that the evidence is just not what it should be. However, for me I truly had a gut feeling that something else was going on (I have PCOS as well). So I agreed with the perinatologist that taking baby aspirin was worth the small risk of taking aspirin during pregnancy.

Also...good for you to know....I didn't have to see the perinatologist for pregnancy. After I had a consult with him, he predicted that I would do great with aspirin/folic acid/B vitamins and told me it did NOT put me in the high risk pregnancy category. So you may be fine with just seeing the hematologist.

This is why I love JM - You guys have given me so much more info that I have been able to find on my own.

And, I appreciate your thoughfulness, but you don't have to hide your siggy. I was looking forward to seeing your progress!

I have the MTHFR mutation as well. I'm not sure which one (I've asked a few times but it's so impossible to get the answer from my Dr. office that I just kind of gave up - yeah, it's pitiful) but I was put on high dose folic acid and was told baby aspirin was not necessary (I know that there are varying opinions on the aspirin issue). Anyway, I've not had any problems with this pregnancy so far whereas I lost my first two to "chromosomal" issues. I like to think that because my body, courtesy of the mutation, was just not able to absorb folic acid the first two times around, that's what caused the genetic defects in the babies that led to the miscarriages. While that may not be the one and only reason, it definitely gives me hope that it was the only problem and had a somewhat simple fix. Hopefully, with high dose folic acid and possibly blood thinners, you will be able to carry your next pregnancy to term. Hugs to you Kat!
