Hey Chantal. One of the the first signs of hypothyroidism for some women is frequent periods that are longer and heavier than normal. Other signs of Hypothyroidism that you may not have noticed are: Thin, brittle hair; losing hair; water retention, loss of appetite, gaining weight on low calories, tiredness, constipation.
It's great that she is checking T4, but really the T3 is more telling of subclinical hypo. Also, there are two lab ranges that float around out there. The newest ranges put ideal TSH between .3 and 3 (some labs still use the outdated values of .5-5.0) Some women start to show symptoms of hypo before their TSH passes 3, in which case it is call subclinical. My endocrinoligist prefers my TSH between 1 and 1.5.
