Hi ladies!
So I met with my OB yesterday (one day after meeting with a different one who I decided I didn't like at all- long story!) and I forgot to mention I was taking 100 mg of Vitamin B6. I called his office today and the girl was a little less than helpful- they do recommend 25 mg for morning sickness, but she didn't know about a higher dose. Does anyone know? I'm nervous to stop taking it but don't want it to cause any harm either, you know? Any info appreciated!

I know the b-vitamins are water soluable and are excreted very easily (thru urine, sweat, etc) so I'm not sure that you're going to exactly be harming your babe esp if you're drinking allot of water, sweating and such.

Call your pharmacist they know about those sorts of things as well as dr's, but I really don't think you have anything to worry about

B vitamins are water soluble so whatever your body does not need goes out of your body in the way of sweat and urine.
I would suggest that you get in touch with a nurse at your doctor's office or consult about this with a pharmacist just to get this information from a person in the medical field.

I take extra Bs on top of my prenatal and the B complex I take has extra folic acid. I was doing some reading and second what EJsMommy and Celena said. My husband is a nurse as well and knows a lot about vitamins and how they work, thanks to his job. He said they're fine.

i was taught in my nutrition course that when you take an increased amount of any B vitamin you can cause a depletion in the other B's that you need. that is why nutritionists give a B complex rather then just individual B's. that is unless you have a KNOWN deficiency in a certain B vitamin.

i found this:

B vitamins are generally best taken in balanced complement, unless there is a specific deficiency or need for an individual vitamin. An excess of one component may lead to depletion of the others.

just ask you doc about it. if you have a B6 deficiency then you are good, but if you dont really need the mega dose i would switch to a complex. you dont want it to cause the other levels of B that you need to become depleted. (especially the Folic Acid - B9)
