1st off - I love him - He has the most amazing bedside manner. It may have something to do with the fact that he is a hematologist/oncologist, but he hugged me at the end of the appt.
He was very educated on the MTHFr A1298C mutation. I took all my labs just in case, but he did have them in my file. After a detailed history - including miscarriage history with my grandmother, mother and half sister he reviewed the labs with me. He told me that by itself the A1298C is not terrible, but needs to be monitored. Normal treatment would be baby aspirin and extra folic acid, BUT my Protien C and Protien S are borderline. These two protien levels decrease under the influence of estrogen and progesterone, so when I get pregnant they will be low. It means that I have two factors working against me causing clots, especially when pregnant. I asked how we treated the Protiens and he said "you can't, I can only give you blood thinners starting as soon as you get pregnant" He also told me that he felt without a doubt that the Protien C & S levels caused my miscarriage.
My follow up is in two weeks, unless I get a BFP next week, then I am to call him immediately for belly shots.
Kat.
