The last time I went to the dentist I was newly pregnant. I was maybe 6 weeks along. I told them so they could update my chart and we skipped the x-rays. I had forgotten that I was pregnant at that appointment.
Fast forward to my dentist appointment on Thursday. She asks if there's anything new since my last visit. I tell her nothing and my teeth are fine. She looks at me, looks at my flat belly, and tentatively asks, "Now you're expecting a baby?" I'm sure she assumed that I would have a big belly at 32 weeks pregnant. I told her no, explained that I lost the baby at 12 weeks and had had surgery since I was last in-- she apologized a little too much. I understand that she felt bad and it's her job to ask, but her gushing on and on about how sorry she was made me feel a little sad and uncomfortable.
She finishes and the other hygenist who has been there for years and years sees me. She says, "HI" and then grabs my arm and says, "You need to get out of this hallway-- they're doing x-rays!" and then says, "I wanted to say congratulations too!" Before I could correct her someone interrupts because they need her and I could never correct her.
Then I go to the front desk and another woman who's been there for years says (in front of a waiting room of people), "I hear congratulations are in order!" I said, "Actually they're not" but she didn't hear me because someone came over and interrupted us. I was so uncomfortable by this point that I didn't want to correct her again or talk about it in front of a waiting room of people so when she looked over at me again when the other lady walked away and said, "Congratulations!" I just smiled at her.
*sigh* I understand they didn't know and they were just happy for me but it was so uncomfortable. Oh, and to put icing on the cake, I went back to work after my appt and a guy who used to work with me was in for an exam with his family. He congratulated me too because he hadn't heard... What a day it was... *sigh*

Just awful. Not only does it make you feel bad, but sometimes I think we end up doing more consoling of them! They feel bad, we have to tell them, "Its ok, dont worry, I know you meant well ... blah blah blah blah!"

I'm so sorry, that must have been so uncomfortable. I had a similar experience last night at the dentist so I hear you. I had gone in August and told them no X Rays cause I was pg, then lost the baby in September. Of course, she sees my chart last night and goes on and on after I told her. I don't really want the world to know about my loss much less my dentist. Ugh.

I'm sorry. My chiropractor kept asking me about my pregnancy well after I told him about my loss. He felt awful about it.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time. I also had an uncomfortable dentist visit soon after my loss. Hugs.
