From what I know of Mirena, it does have hormones...
I had the Paraguard (non-hormonal) as this was the only type of bc I could use due to a cancer history. I did cramp a little after it was inserted, but only for the first day. My periods were heavier due to the IUD irratating the lining.....my cylces were normal, as I still ovulated every month and I was very regular. I had the IUD taken out in Jan of 09, conceived the week after removal, and had a chemical prgegnancy that month. The following month, Feb, I conceived again....but lost that baby at 9.5wks, baby passed away at 8wks........conceived again in Sept of 09, partial ectopic.
I dont believe my IUD had anything to do with my m/c's at all. Well maybe the first one, as my lining may of not of been ready for implantation a week after removal. But the other two, I believe were due to being a bad pregnancy to start with. Once I have this baby, I plan to put the Paraguard back in again until I dont menstrate anymore. I dont plan to have any other children, but even if I did, the Paraguard would be my first and only option for bc. I loved it. Best bc I have ever used in my life ( a long one at that, lol!)
