I just copied and pasted from an email I sent to my girlfirend who's a doc. She's been one of my rocks through all this:
Quote:
I think the doctor's appointment went very well. We talked about all the possible causes of miscarriage and he talked about doing a full workup.
I got an ultrasound which showed 3 fibroids, rather than the 1 that my regular ob/gyn reported on my scan from about 6 weeks ago. He said they are all about 2.5 centimeters and that the main thing we would need to know is where they are exactly. He said an HSG would be the only way to know. So my prayer is that they are not in the cavity of the uterus--if they (or one) were, that would certainly explain a lot. But man I really don't want to go through fibroid surgery.
He also said my lining was a little thin, 7.4mm. I don't know if this is the norm or if it has something to do with how things went last cycle. He said some women get pregnant just fine with a lining like mine, it just depends on the individual.
He was very accommodating. I told him that I would like to try the blood thinning shots and progesterone before a positive urine test. He, of course, explained that these would not be the "magic bullet" if there was some other cause of the miscarriages not related to the thrombophilia or progesterone. I told him I understood and he called in the prescriptions for me. He prescribed Heparin as he feels it is a more established drug than Lovenox.
I also asked for a quantitative hcg a few days before my period would be due. I want to:
a) know if I conceived even if I am not able to get a positive urine test
b) if we did conceive and it doesn't work out, that will tell us that there is more of an issue beyond the thrombophilia and hormones.
Let's see what else. He said my doc's recommendation to take a full dose aspirin was not a good recommendation! I told him that I didn't feel comfortable with that when it came out of her mouth!
If perhaps, things don't work out this cycle, then I will do a test on cycle day 3, to test FSH and something else he said. Then I will get an HSG after my period. I heard those are really uncomfortable, so let's pray that it won't even be necessary because Baby Bowens will be occupying the space for 9 months!
I think that's all. The only thing that's kind of bothering me is the thought of a fibroid being in my uterine cavity, because my thoughts have been that if it's not the thrombophilia causing the problem, there's probably something "foreign" in my uterus like a polyp or something and it's acting like a IUD and making my babies not implant properly. I hope ain't nothin' in there, but what God put in there!
Whew, I am learning a lot!
