I have a short LP (11 days) and I decided to take extra B6... B6 reduces estrogen while rising progesterone. It's not recommended to take more than 100 mg without a doctor's prescription. So now i want to take Women's One a day (it has 400 mcg of folic acid in it) + 400 mcg Folic Acid + 50 mg B6

I am thinking of buying either B complex vitamin or just B6 by itself.

Very large doses of b6 can cause permanent nerve damage when taken over long periods of times. I read that as long as you do not take more than 100mg, you should be fine and it's safe in that dosage (because it's water soluble and you just pee out what you don't need).

I am goint to start taking it in addition to my multi vit.

I don't know if it was a coincidence, but I took B6 the cycle I got pregnant. I also used pre-seed for the first time that cycle, so it might have been that - or it might have just been good ole luck.
Natalie, I didn't know B6 helps with progesterone, that's great to know!! I guess it's good to keep taking while in the early stages of pregnancy too, to support the progesterone? I wonder if it's safe during pregnancy?

Judy, as far as I know it's safe to continue taking B6 during pregnancy as long as you do not overdose it. But I'd also consult a doctor as soon as i got PG just in case.
I was so happy to find out that b6 helps with progesterone. yay!

My Hematolgist and Ob have me on b-complex (B2 1.7mg; Niacin 20mg; B6 2mg; B12 1.2mg; Panthothetic acid 30 mg), in addition to 2 mg of Folic acid + plus my RX prenatal. I started all of them while TTC and my Ob told me that at my first appt. that if I weren't all ready on B complex and additional Folic acid, she would have put me on it since I am homo for MTHfR A mutation. So yes, they are safe to continue into pregnancy. Interesting about the B complex, it really eases a lot of my pregnancy symptoms, to the point where it kind of freaks me out sometimes! There used to be a drug for morning sickness that was B complex and basically Unisom.

I have also read many studies that suggest B complex during the luteal phase will help ease PMS symptoms. I can't really give any feedback, as I got pregnant first cycle taking it.

Kat.

Yes, it is safe. It is actually great for morning sickness. My OB had told me 100mg a day with my last pregnancy ( for motion sickness actually...good for that too!)...so I am taking it now and I am 4 weeks 4 days pregnant.

Good luck!

Katie
