I have too much time on my hands today and was wondering - does anyone know why they haven't come up with a blood based HPT where you could prick your finger? I'm thinking of something along the lines of the tests diabetics use?
Apart from the obvious problem that both Tobi and I would have VERY sore fingers (sorry Tobi!) would there be any benefit and is HCG high enough in the bloodstream to detect?
Any nurses, OBs, biologists out there?
Just wondering.....

That's a good idea.. I have no idea about any of it.. I know when they do test for blood beta's they take more blood then a prick so I dont know if a prick would do it..

That's the drawback I was thinking of - don't know how much they actually use though...

LOL Can I tell you how funny I think it is that you included me! Funny, and absolutely true!! Strangely enough, I was thinking about that very same thing! (Probably not surprising) It would be so much more accurate, and hcg does show up in blood tests earlier than urine.
PS Hows the testing going?? lol

I'm pleased you found it funny - after I posted I suddenly hoped you wouldn't find it offensive!
I'm sure it would be more accurate though so there must be a reason they haven't done it.
Testing - I WISH I could stop POAS! I seriously can't see at the best of times (think putting on coke bottle glasses the moment I wake up) and I'm sending myself insane. It's a bit like Sixth Sense except "I see pink lines"......

Lol "I see pink lines" ... hilarious!
I may have the same affliction, only Im seeing pink lines in my dreams! Three different dreams last night, all with me poas ... Im surprised I havent peed the bed yet! Wouldnt dbf be shocked?? hahaha
And you probably never have to worry about offending me. There isn't anything I like more than laughing, even at myself!
I was like that, couldnt see a thing without my glasses. I had laser surgery a few years ago to correct it, and it is amazing!! Have you considered it? Would it work for you?

Oh good, I have to laugh at myself!
I'd love laser surgery but apparently my eyes need to settle for at least a year. The last time I looked into it they said I'd always need glasses to read anyway so I do wonder whether it's worth it.

I'm going with FMU tomorrow - not feeling like I'll get a BFP though.
Good luck!

Wouldn't that be awesome? But I'm sure those testing strips would be outrageous just like diabetic testing strips, monitors are cheap. LOL

I think Lindsey is probably on the right track (not enough blood) but I don't know for sure!! Maybe they also don't think people want to go that far to know?? But I know I would!! lol I'd look like a heroine addict!
I already have a get rich plan: to develop a test where you pop a pill and if you're pregnant you pee blue for a day? How does that sound??

I always said they should have a something that turned your pee a color... Or something you drop in the toilet and than pee.
As for the Blood.. the machine that spins the blood is a huge machine.. that can pick up the smallest amount of HCG levels.. And even with the Diabetic glucose montior's they are not as accurate as a blood draw and run on those huge machines.. So I could just imagine the false + and false -..... While yes it picks it up early... the reason for the HPT's.. are to tell you yes or no... While the glucose monitor's are desgined to give you a number...... Maybe in years to come... but for now... their is no reason for the companies to try to come up with something to give a number... just a yes or no. For ladies that have losses.... we would love to know our number in a few mins.... (But how accurate.....) I can tell you the fingerstick blood Glucose and the the stick in the arm to get a tube of blood for glucose... can be 20-30 off ... that is a big difference when talking about "HCG" in the early days.

I did and went cross eyed trying to convince myself I see I line.
Realistically, I don't think I did. In fact, you just made me check it again, there's a line now but I know that's just an evap.
We're not out JUST yet....
