When did this happen?! Where was I?
I didn't even notice this in the store, but I was just arranging my HPT and OPK stash and saw the FRER box. At the top, where it normally used to say, "5 Days Before Your Missed Period," it now says, "6 Days Before Your Missed Period."
Huh?!
Has anyone else noticed this? Seriously, when did this happen? I swear the last time I took a FRER, it said 5 days.
The pamphlet on the inside said that 68% of women got a + result at this time. Is that right?? How can that be?? When it was 5 days, it read that it was something closer to like 30% at 5 days, 50% at 4 days, and so on. So how the heck did it jump to 68%?? I thought these new FRERs were supposed to be inferior to the old ones? (White wrapper vs. pink wrapper.) Is this just a marketing ploy because now EVERY OTHER TEST on the market says "5 days"?
Here's what it reads on the pamphlet:
Q: How accurate is the test?
A: One study showed positive results for 68% of the samples by 6 days before the missed period. In this study, all samples from pregnant women tested positive by 4 days before the missed period. However, it is important to note that your results may vary, and that some women may not have detectable amounts of pregnancy hormone in their urine until after the missed period. This is because hCG levels vary between women, and because some women sometimes have difficulty predicting the exact date of their next period. If test results are negative, but you still believe you may be pregnant, you should retest a few days after your missed period. If the test is negative, but you still believe you may be pregnant, consult with your healthcare provider.

So now I am so totally testing at 8 DPO!
Totally.

I know I had a super super faint line on the one I took yesterday and 6 hours later my HCG was 9 so they pick up pretty low levels. The thing I HATE about them is the indent line is so obvious that if you're one of those who stares and tilts and all you will notice it!

Oh yeah, that grayish indent line! I've seen that on the new ones. As the urine is traveling across the strip, you can see it through the window, and it goes over the indent line and you can actually watch it become shaded very briefly. Once it dries, it's pretty easy to tell if it's pink, but sometimes you can totally see the gray indent line afterwards.
But what I noticed about the new FRERs is that they have DOTTED lines. Yup! If you look at them close enough, you will see that the lines aren't solid like they used to be. They are actually comprised of small dots that form a line, and they're also thinner than the old ones.
I am going to test at 8 DPO to see if I am one of the 68%. But wait, is that actually 6 days? Let me do the math...
Assuming you have a 14-day LP:
According to FF, the day of expected AF would be 15 DPO. So...
... 1 day before would be 14 DPO
... 2 days before would be 13 DPO
... 3 days before would be 12 DPO
... 4 days before would be 11 DPO
... 5 days before would be 10 DPO
... 6 days before would be 9 DPO
Or is it 6 days before the day you MISSED your period (i.e. the day on which you would officially consider it "late," in which case it would be 10 DPO, which would make way more sense.
Ugh.

I'll take a pic of mine with a beta at 9 and post if it'll show in the pic. I'll wait until tomorrow so DH doesn't think I'm nuts

You know with all these "Marketing" skills.. I think that these companies.. stalk sites like this.. and see all of us POAS addicts.. and know they can make a mint off us....!!!!!!!!
The whole thing is depending on when your little bean implants.. will be when you can test.. While yes.. I usually get positives around 9dpo. While other people never get one until after 12pdo, or 14pdo.... And every pregnancy is different.
Every month.... I always started on 7dpo... (Just incase I was off on my days..) I know, I know... LOL total POAS addict I was!!!!

I agree with Kary - even though the tests CAN detect that early does not mean they will. Sadly I am not one of the 68% because I never got a positive earlier than 12-13dpo.
