Is that weird? Maybe not. I've had hyperemesis through three pregnancies. I'm pretty much guaranteed to be deathly ill for the first trimester, and very sick through the next 2. I'm not guaranteed to have a loss.

I think that's my biggest hangup. I think that if we had a possibility I might not get m/s so bad this time we'd be TTC right now. Whenever I talk to DH about TTC, his concern is how sick I get.

I'm not feeling too hot today, and it's giving me flashbacks to when I was pregnant with Cora, laying on the bathroom floor, convinced I was going to die. Literally. I was sure there was no way I could survive it. It wasn't so bad, emotionally, through the next two because I knew I could survive it, but thinking about being that sick again is near to reducing me to tears.

Ugh.

Oh man. I am deathly ill the whole first trimester and its very very difficult for me and my family. I can not hardly get out of bed. I loose a lot of weight and its just aweful. It normally gets better in the 2nd trimester though. I can barly lift my head off the pillow the whole first trimester though so I am with you on that one. I throw up a lot and feel as if I have the stomach bug and flu all at the same time.

I dont know what I would do if it lasted the whole pregnancy. I always dred the first trimester of pregnancy.

It isn't weird at all, it's funny you say that... I've been suffering bouts of horrible nausea lately and it makes me think about when I was pg with my DD. She was a rainbow baby and I was so sick the first trimester into the 2nd I lost 25+lbs which isn't a whole lot since I wasn't tiny to begin with. Popsicles, gatorade, cola & saltines were the easiest to get down and the easiest coming back up. (ewe, sorry tmi)

Britt I just cannot even begin imagine how horrible you felt, I have experienced HMG. I'm sorry that it is so hard on you and your family, the love we have for our little ones and what we willingly do for them I hope that it may be different for you the next time. (better, easier, not nearly as sick)

Thanks! I don't think that's going to happen though. I've been severely sick through 3 with both female and male babies. So...I think it's just my lot in life.

I'm feeling better about things this morning. Had a really emotional day yesterday. PMS anyone? >_<

Thanks for all the well-wishes though. I guess I still need to take my time with deciding. Not really ready yet.

I can't imagine what you've gone through. I've been very fortunate that I've only been nauseous and not really sick. My mom was sick through her whole first pregnancy and then for the first trimester with me. She's still bitter about it (nearly 40 years later).

I know what you mean. I'm sick throughout the whole pregnancy. The morning sickness that never ends really. After everything I eat, drink, and I can't even take prenatals! I have to take flintstones vitamins because I can keep them down.

It's hell on my teeth, so extra brushing, and dentist visits, but I think at this point, I would gladly take it.

Though I definitely understand, why you'd be more anxious about being sick. Nobody likes to be sick like that.

yeah, actually, my teeth are horrid. I didn't have dental coverage through any of my pregnancies and it did a number on my teeth. So far I've had 2 root canals, 5 crowns and 6 fillings, and I have 22 more fillings yet to go.

I got the gummy kids vitamins with my last pregnancy because I couldn't even get down the Flintstones chewables

Wow Brittanie. I am sorry you get so sick while pregnant.. Your Dr can't put you on something to help with that? I really hope that this next one will be different.. Maybe since your body has some time in between. Not every pregnancy is the same so I will be praying that your next one won't be so harsh on your body..Hang in t here.

I've been on medications before, but medicaid would only cover phenergan. I'm going to try something different this time, zofran or something. So I'm a little hopeful. I was just having a really bad day yesterday.

I was sick until 5 months and I loved Zofran. Phenegran just made me go to sleep and wake up sick. I hope the when you do decide to have another baby that it is something will work out better than the past pregnancies. I can't imagine being sick the whole time and not to mention I hate the dentist

HUGS.... I am so sorry... I have been living on Zofran. Since the begining. I am just starting to have more good days than bad... But I am not complaining. After three losses.. I will take the sickness. If I have healthy babies in my arms at the end of all this. With my son... I would throw up once and be done, with my second loss.. OMG was I so sick.. even after I knew we lost the heart beat.. the m/s got even worse that was a little girl.. now with two... it is like double that sickness.

I pray that the next pregnancy is totally different... and your not sick at all!!!

I was on phenagrin too for my pregnancy. It just made me sleep and wake up sick as well. (Though I guess if you sleep you can't really be sick eh? Though not all of us can afford to sleep all the time just to avoid being sick)
I asked my doc about it, and she gave me a script for zofran, but it was like 300 dollars to fill because my insurance wouldn't cover it, but I have heard good things about it.
It does suck to be sick the whole time. Food begins to look pointless, yet you know that in order to get proper nutrition for yourself and your baby you have to do it no matter the outcome. And to me it starts to feel like i'm wasting money, ya know?
Does your sickness end when you have the baby? Or do you still have lingering symptoms afterward?
Mine went away within the first few days of having my daughter, and boy was that wonderful!

It ends pretty much immediately upon delivery (and starts at conception!). I threw up during delivery with Erin and Patrick, and immediately afterward with Cora, and those were the last times with each of them. I was nauseous for maybe a day afterward, but that was gone pretty much immediately too.

It's a good thing they're so dang cute.

I know right?

It may suck but it's totally worth it. That's actually how I found out I was pregnant the last two times. With my first I found out when I was like two or three weeks along because of how sick I was. With my ectopic I was very sick as well, and despite the bleeding thought/or maybe just knew that I was pregnant--but I thought I was miscarrying.

That's what's got me going now. I'm sick again. Just like I got when I was pregnant. Can't keep anything down, and constantly feeling nauseous. I took a pg test but, it was bfn, so I don't quite know what to think. Thinking about a doc app, but, can't afford the copay until next week because this week is our big big bill week so I'm not sure what I should do.

(PS do you think I might have what you have when you get pregnant? I don't remember what my doc told me, because it was four years ago, but it sure sounds similar to yours!)

The only definitions of hyperemesis gravidarum I can find online are "severe or persisitent" morning sickness. Since there's no real way to diagnose the difference between actual HG and morning sickness...except that they do reference it leading to dehydration and/or preventing adequate intake of nutrition or leading to weight loss. ALL of those are true of me. If your doctor mentioned a fancy word to you, it was probably hyperemesis.

This is a great website Help HER - Hyperemesis Education Research

Yup that's definitely what it was. After reading up about it, I remember my doctor telling me about it. I lost ten pounds in the first trimester, and only ended up gaining fifteen through the whole pregnancy, and I constantly had to go in for shots of phenagrin, and IV fluids. I could hardly work too, because I would get dizzy, and lightheaded if I got too hungry (which my stomach would growl and then boom dizzy. Then I would eat, and be hungry again like fifteen minutes later if not sooner because I couldn't keep it down) Then constantly having to run to the bathroom, is not good having at work.

Thanks for that site! Definitely bookmarking it.

I only ever went in for fluids once, but I probably should have more often. I just hate hate hate hate IVs (it usually takes at LEAST 3 tries to get them in, more when dehydrated), and I did the best I could with propel and powerade. Luckily my babies are healthy.
