Hello everyone my name is Sarah 22 wife to Patrick 26 and mom to Alaiyah 4 and Avian 8 months. DH and I are going through our first loss. We got our bfp June 9th but I had been bleeding since May 30th (Thought it was AF but it never went away) and am still bleeding today.
Beta levels:
June 9 - 50.7
U/S didn't see anything.
June 12 - 44
U/S didn't see anything.
June 27 - 104.5
U/S showed sac w/out fetal pole.
July 3 - 70
No U/S done.

The ER doctor said now I have to just wait it out. I have passed many clots (sorry for TMI) and have a very heavy AF like flow. I have an appointment Wed. for my initial consult with my OB but I already feel out of place going now. Does anyone know how long the bleeding and cramping can last or how long beta levels should take to go back to 0? The doctor didn't say much when I asked what to expect, he just said everyone was different and left if at that.

Well I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Thanks for listening.

Hi Sarah! I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs.

Everyone's body handles a m/c differently, and there really isn't a cut and dry timeline. They do say on average that you should be able to expect your next cycle to start within 6 weeks or so of a loss. There will be people who fall outside of that, though (myself included).

But the length of time that you've been bleeding (since May 30th?) does sound unusual. I had a D&C with my loss, so I don't know much about natural m/c, but I would think that over a month of bleeding is too long.

Have any doctors mentioned the possibility that the m/c may be incomplete and that at some point you might consider a D&C? I would think at the least, that you should continue to have your hcg levels monitored weekly. If I were you, I would go to the OB appt. They may be more familiar with m/c cases and have a better recommendation for you.

I hope that you are able to get some answers and start healing soon!

Hi Sarah and to TTCAL

I'm very very sorry to hear that you're going thru your first loss together. It's not an easy time at all both emotionally and physically. It sounds like your body is trying to expell everything and heal. Have you told your doctor about your long term bleeding? I'm surprised they haven't thought to check you out for retained tissue.

The bleeding can vary depending on the your body's healing process as well as other factors. When did your heavy flow begin? Were you spotting in the beginning and then heavily recently as your numbers started to go down? Have you had a fever or unusual pain?

When I started bleeding on the May 30th I thought it was AF and it was a heavy flow like normal for me. By June 3 it had tapered off just like my normal AF would end but had light spotting that turned into a medium flow on June 9th, I just took the EPT on a whim to see if pregnancy could be ruled out as to why I was still bleeding. It was BFP and I went to the ER that night, dr said it was a threatened m/c. The bleeding stayed light and my levels went up until yesterday morning when I started passing clots and having cramps. The ER dr said it was an incomplete m/c and to follow up with my OB on Wed. I plan to go I just feel like I should be going to see how the baby is developing you know? Not to see if I need a D&C. So I guess I consider yesterday to be the start of the actual m/c?

Sarah HUGS.... I am so sorry you are going through this...

I would say yes, consider yesterday as CD 1 (even though they say when you are m/c you shouldn't count CD's... but I did with each of mine.) As for the bleeding. As long as you are not bleeding more than a pad an hour. If you are than you should head back to the ER, ASAP. Also if you start having a fever or smell with discharge. Than you also need to either call the Dr or head to the ER.

As to what to expect... With every m/c and every woman is different. All three of mine were so different. My first was just a heavier period like, a little more crampy. My second I needed a D/E... my third was more heavier with more cramps than I had had with my first two. Than my first AF's after each loss.. was very crampy and heavy, with more clots.. after my D/E.. it took about 5 months to get back to a normal... and those 5 AF's were almost as bad as the first one...

This was just my experiance. Every lady on here can give you a different story of what they went through.. Some better than mine, some the same, some more...

I wish thier was an easy answer.. HUGS..
