I know I have a couple of pretty big cavities, even though I've had very little pain. I still want those filled. I heard women who are ttc should prevent for at least 2-3 months to give time for the metals to leave their bodies. What have you ladies heard on this? Should we put baby on hold? Or continue trying like normal, or maybe there's some new kind of filling they can use that isn't metal? I'm probably going to wait and see if this cycle yields a bfp or if AF comes. If AF shows around the 25th when I'm due, I will probably schedule the dentist right around then. If I get a bfp, all bets are off and dentist will be on hold. lol What should I do?

I've never heard that, but maybe some of the other ladies have. I do know that metal isn't the only option anymore. They have a white composite that makes your teeth look more natural and isn't metal. I've been slowly getting all of my old metal fillings replaced with composite as they've needed it, and I like it much better. It is a tad more expensive, but it's worth it IMO.

My dentist doesn't use metal fillings anymore, he uses a type of ceramic think. (and I've got a ton) They're not visible, and they actually hold up better. You could always give your dentist a call and tell them you may be pregnant and see what they say.

I have heard the stuff that leaks out of those type of fillings is not good. You can get the clear or tooth colored fillings. My dd dentist actually used sterling silver on her and said it was better than the metal kind but not sure. I dont like fillings period but they can be needed at times. I actually need to go to the dentist as well. I hate dentist. LOL

I've had metal fillings to that, but my ceramic ones so far are great. I have had many many bad dentists, but this one I have is great (which is good, with all the work I have been having done! GAH)

As for the miscarriage link, I've heard that too. The bacteria that causes gum disease can cross the placenta or something. But it has to be pretty bad. But it's definitely a reason to keep up with your hygiene appointments while TTC or pregnant.
