I got up to answer the phone and my foot was asleep. It rolled and I heard a loud crack. My foot swelled not even 5 min. later. It isn't real swollen, but you can tell it is. I don't think I broke it b/c I can walk on it. It hurts to rotate/turn it but it isn't excruciating. It does hurt while sitting hear just typing this. It isn't really bruised. Maybe a little. I don't have insurance so whatever I did will have to wait til tomorrow if I need to get it checked.
Do you think I just sprained it or hurt it?
Has anyone had similar symptoms with a broken foot?

Lisa - I am the queen of broken foot!
First of all, put ice on it please and keep it elevated. Do you have crutches at home? Try not to walk on it. When I broke my foot I thought I just sprained my ankle and since I don't have insurance I didn't go to the doctor either.... big mistake. I walked on it for 2 weeks and probably damaged it so much more!
I am stubborn and a really bad patient. I went to the ER 2 weeks after I broke it and they misdiagnosed me and put me in a foot shoe and a walking cane. 1 week later it still hurt soooooo much so I went to my dr who said the ER was crazy and put a cast on it. 6 weeks later I moved out of state and got sick of the cast and cut it off with a hand saw. (NOT RECOMMENDED)... I hurt it worse and went to another dr who put me in a walking boot with crutches as I told them I would just cut another cast off. All in all I was in a walking boot for 1 year because I am too stubborn to follow directions.
I hope it isn't broken!!! Keep me updated.

Here's the thing: swollen tissue can actually hold a fracture together so it wouldn't hurt as bad. It's possible it's just a crack rather than a full-on fracture, but can also be a sprain. I would at least wrap it tightly and not walk on it. Even if there's no bone damage, torn cartilage or ligaments/muscles can not heal properly if you continue to walk on it. Is there a quick care or something you could go to? In my experience those are cheaper than an ER and they can at least give you more information on to what kind of damage you did.

Ouch!!! I don't have anything to add, but I think Missy and Brittanie gave you great advice. I hope it's not broken.

Well, swelling went down just a little bit. Only bruised a little. Doesn't hurt as bad. I think I just hurt it. I would think it would hurt worse if I did some damage. I may go to urgent care in a little bit just to have them check.

That is what I said too.... and I walked on it and made it worse. An urgent care center shouldn't cost more than $150 with the x-rays. I know that is still a lot of money but worth getting it looked at now instead of paying for it later. Keep us updated sweetie...

Well, I guess no dr. for me. It hurt to push on the brakes in the driveway so I am not going to drive. DH is sick and I can't even get him out of bed to go to the dr. let alone drive us there.

I sprained my ankle really bad one time and thought I broke it. It took forever to heal up and I stayed off of it for awhile. Ice is good. Also soaking it in some epsom salt will help as well.
Hope its not broken.

I ended up driving us. I used my left foot for the brake the whole time. I just sprained my ankle and DH is probably sick from the heat.

I am glad you were able to get it looked at and it is just a sprain. (not that a sprain is easy either). Did they wrap it up for you?

Lisa,
Never under estimate the pain of a sprained ankle. Sprain is another way to say "torn or stretched ligaments" I hope yours isn't too bad. I tore mine in my left ankle a couple of years ago and it still bothers me some. The most important thing is to rehab it properly. Google - rehab torn ankle ligament and it will give you exercises that will help restrengthen the ligaments.

Thanks! I tried the kenpo exercise last night and made it through. I had to modify quite a bit though.
