What over the counter supplements do you take aid in TTC? Why do you take them, and how many MG? Right now I just take prenatal vit. My Dr told me to add Vit D and C

Also does the soy isoflavones make you ovulate on each side every month? I ask because I only have my right tube.

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row!

Thanks

I take evening primrose oil. It's not necessarily a supplement though. I started taking it a few years back when I went on an herbal/vitamin kick to try and help me be healthier. Only later did I find out that Evening Primrose Oil can help aid in fertility as well, so it's the only one I continued to take. I also take folic acid as well, as that can help your body get ready for pregnancy and for when you do get pregnant it can also help your baby develop.

I only take a prenatal too. I used to take several things but my OB took me off all of it including Vitamin D. Actually another dr wants me to take it so technically I'm taking it once again but once I get pg I plan on quitting since my OB is dead set against it (even though I have a vitamin D deficiency). But what's the hardest thing for me is that my thyroid dr is the one who prescribed it to begin with then my Ob said no for TTC then my family dr wanted me on it & my RE said it's fine. Ugggghhhh, can you dr's just get on the same page?!

It sounds to me like soy is similar to Clomid that it makes you O or gives you a stronger O. If you have both ovaries it can make you O from either side or both. I actually only have 1 ovary & tube myself.

I have been taking:

Prenatal Vitamins
A B Vitamin complex (for spotting before AF, but it hasn't really helped so I have been sticking with it mainly for extra folic acid)
Soy Isoflavones (this cycle I did 160 mg CD 3-7, trying to get an earlier O, but I am not noticing a difference with that yet, either)

I have been thinking about adding baby aspirin, since I was diagnosed with a clotting disorder. My doc said there is no need, but I am thinking it might make me feel better about the chemical pg/m/c risks.

My prental has enough folic acid in it, ive been taking it for a year.

Amanda why did your Dr. take you off Vit D I didnt get a clear answer as to why my dr wants me to take Vit D and C. I am not deficant.

I have my left ovary, just not tube, but from what i've been told I have a slim chance of getting prego from the left side.

Nicole let me know how they soy works for you.

I took the soy 120 mg cd 3-7, I also used a bottle of Robitussin, baby aspirin, prenatal, and extra folic acid. DH took a vitamin C and E supplement. I don't know if it was all of it combined, or just the soy, but it worked.

Depending on when you take it... it acts like Clomid just without as harsh of side-effects. I can tell you I get hot flashes, nausea and headaches from it and somewhat emotional.

I know it can boost the number of follies that bust out eggs I'm hoping for a good strong set of eggies fertilized we would love twins! (and I think we would be done LOL)

My OB took me off b/c he said that the vitamin d already in my prenatal is enough. Vitamin D overdose while pg is bad... "Maternal overdose can cause mental and/or physical retardation in infants", Symptoms of Overdose : American Pregnancy Association.

Are you sure you aren't deficient? Have you been tested? Actually my RE said, & I agree, that most Caucasian people (of course I don't know if you are Caucasian or of some of ethnicity... I'm just relaying what my dr said) who don't get in the sun a lot ARE deficient & probably don't even necessarily know it. That's why he doesn't feel like adding a little Vitamin D is bad at all. However, the impression I got from my OB was that he thinks all this vitamin d testing is kinda like a fad in health care.

You know how when you get sick & go to the dr they 9 times out of 10 give you an antibiotic when you don't necessarily need it b/c it really is better if you let it run its course so the body can fight it off & even build immunity to it rather than giving it an antibiotic which often patients don't take as they should & these viruses often become immune to the antibiotics. Anyway, I think my OB kinda feels like that concerning vitamin d. I think the medical community has only recently started pushing vitamin d supplementation, even though we've (as a population) always had this issue but now the dr's are making a big deal about it. I just don't think he is buying into the fact that it's THAT big a deal.

Anyway, I think it's probably safe if you have a deficiency but b/c I trust my OB more than my RE & other dr's, I'm gonna stop taking it once I get that

HTHs & that I made sense.

Here are my list of supplements (although some are not necessarily related to TTC).
Prenatal
Calcium
Vit C
Magnesium
Cranberry
If anyone knows anything about one being bad for TTC, let me know. My ob moved and I have been dreading finding a new doc.

I too wanted a RX for progesterone but my dr wouldn't give it to me despite the fact my numbers were on the low side of normal. (15 at 7 weeks). Not sure if I should seek a second opinion since our insurance would cover none of it.
