Hello everyone! I was hoping someone may be able to help me out....

I have never been pregnant before, and I have taken Yaz for quite some time now. I have never had any problems with irregular periods. This past month, my period came 10 days early. It has been going on for a little over 4 weeks now. The discharge started out similar to AF, but is now very thick and clot-looking.

I went to my doctor, and she was very unconcerned about it. She didn't run any tests or anything to determine the cause, and she said it was probably just a combination of stress and my BC.

I called a doctor I used to go to until I moved, and they seemed unconcerned, too. But they did mention that I should stop taking my BC until it is straightened out in case of a miscarriage. Is it possible that I got pregnant on the BC and miscarried? Also, would it be a good idea to stop the BC just to start it again when everything gets back on track?

Thanks for any help...

It's possible that it could be a miscarriage because bcp's are to prevent pregnancy so if there were a fertilized egg the hormones released by the bcp's would prevent implantation.

Altho bcp's can also cause irregular periods as well, I would stop the pill for now and see what happens, definitely call your doctor if you have concerns or go to the ER if the bleeding is excessive, or worsening pain or any kind of fever. If your doctors aren't concerned then you could go to the ER to get checked out to see if you're having a miscarriage, they would test your blood for hCG and more than likely check via trans vag u/s to see if there are any physical signs of pregnancy or what might have been pg.

Please get checked out and update us!

I honestly really have no idea... I'm so sorry I'm of no help. It is def possible to get pg while on BCPs though. My only suggestion is that it seems that dr's might not be listening to you... don't give up if you think something is wrong, keep trying to find someone that will listen. It's like someone at church has said, we look around for a car repairman. If someone doesn't do the job that we thought they should do at this one repair place we go somewhere else. We should also do that with our dr's. You know your body better than anyone. If you think you need to get checked out, keep looking for a dr to help. I do think that maybe stopping the BCP could help, even mentally right now but I honestly really don't know what to tell you other than that I'm thinking of & praying for you...

I agree with the other ladies, if you really think something could be going on go back to your doctor and demand they take you seriously and run some blood tests.

That being said, it has been my experience that you can usually tell the difference between a miscarriage and a heavy period. My MCs were terribly painful and there was no doubt that I was having contractions and not just period cramps. I don't tell you this to discount what you think might be happening, but to give you so me hope that maybe it's just a wacky period. Big hugs either way. It's always scary not knowing what's going on with your body.

I'm with the others, hun. Go to the doc and demand an examination. I took yaz for 1.5 years. It screwed me up pretty good too. I too got pregnant on the pill, but miscarried at around 4-6 weeks. Now, I was unusually lucky, my miscarriage was totally painless. No period cramps, no nothing. Not even a twinge. (Well.. i don't remember any pain.. but the only pain that sticks out in my mind is emotional) I was just bleeding and passing clots. I haven't started bc since May of 2009 anyways, as DH and I decided to start trying. The miscarriage was a year ago July 24th. Yeah.. anyways.. go get checked. Good luck and kup!!

I agree with the other ladies about asking your doc for some blood tests (especially a quantitative beta hcg test). If the tests show you're not pregnant, then getting off the Yaz sounds like a good idea. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Weirdness with your cycle can be so frustrating

I agree with the other ladies about demanding that your doctor run some blood tests. That way you'll know if it's a m/c. If it's not I agree that getting off the Yaz sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for your help, ladies. What an amazing site!

I called my Dr. yesterday and left a message with a nurse. She called back today and said that my Dr was really concerned and ordered a pregnancy test and ultrasound stat. So, I am getting ready to go to have those done so hopefully I have some answers. Would the pregnancy test results be back today, or do I have to wait on them? Guess I'll find out!

I will let you guys know what happens as soon as I find out. I really hope if there was a baby, that there is some way to save it. Either way, no more BCP for me...

Yay that you're getting in to see a dr! I do think that they can tell you today whether or not you're pg and/or having a m/c. Yes, please KUP. I'll be thinking & praying for you.

And if you want to use BC in the future you can always use NFP/FAM instead of the pill. I can give you a great book recommendation if you decide that's what you are interested in.
