Has anyone had a Brazilian blowout? I am thinking of getting one done for my bday but don't know if I want to pay the big bucks for it.

Just lurking here but I'm a cosmetologist and wanted to say that Brazilian blowouts are awesome! You could also ask if the salon you are going to, offers the Brazilian gloss, the majority of the time it costs less. (depending on the salon)
Here are a few benefits of the gloss as opposed to the blowout: For one, your hair will be super shiny and pretty (either one will do that though! hehe) The gloss uses keratin instead of chemicals always a good thing. It uses a lower heat and normally will not cause scalp or eye irritation. (the blowout requires a 450 degree heat on the hair) Gloss reduces frizz and curl about 50 or 60% which means if you spend TONS of time flat ironing or messing with your hair, you won't have to do that any more!! Woohoo!!! It's especially good if you have those unruly little curly/wavy/frizzy hairs underneath your hair or around your hairline. It will also last you about 3 months and can be used on color treated or chemically treated hair without damage. I've never done one myself but have taken the courses to do them and assisted with them. I've seen the results on many different hair types and let me tell you, it looks amazing!!

There are tons of facts online about both the gloss and blowout if you want any more info on it. I highly suggest either one though. One thing that I do recommend is that you purchase the specialty shampoo and conditioner with it though because the sulfates and sodium chloride in normal products will breakdown the gloss faster and it won't last as long Anyway, sorry to side-bust on your post but I figured I'd offer a little info and an opinion. Enjoy your hair if you decide to get it. It will look amazing.

Thanks Amy! I asked my stylist about it 'cause I have very fine, curly hair that I often flat iron. I will definitely ask her about the gloss next time I'm in. I've heard such great things about the blow out.

Thanks Amy for the post. I hate having to straighten my hair every time I want to wear it down. Do you know about how much it usually runs? My hair is pretty thick and long.

I had the Brazilian blowout done about 3 years ago. I loved it for the first few days, but then my hair went back to curly and I was afraid to use any products in my hair (gel, mouse or hairspray) and had to straighten my hair every day. It would take me an hour at that point rather than 2. It cost me around $400 but I went to a high-end salon and probably overpaid just for that. You can always ask at the salon you go to for a consultation and they should be able to give you a quote on the price. I knew about the sulfates cause the blowout to break down, but was unaware of the sodium chloride. That could be why mine broke down so fast.
