I know some of you guys have talked about taking baby asprin while ttc. I was wondering if this is helpful. Why is that? My dr told me to take it awhile back as a precautionary measure 'cuz we have heart disease run in the family but I got out of the habit of taking it. I'm on synthroid to see if that helps me not m/c, prenatal, and soy iso to help with o cd 3-7. I'm just wondering if that would help me get pg and not m/c. Is there anything else I should be taking? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Before you start any med you should talk to your Dr. I was put on a baby aspirin after ovulation due to a clotting factor. Now you have to watch taking aspirin before ovulation since your eggs can luetinize and not release. Thier is a lot of talk about if helping your eggs.. Blah blah blah.... not true If you have a clotting issue, or they think you might.. Start it after ovulation like 24 hours... and stop it when you get a BFN. But like I said I would talk to your doc. even though it is 81 mg... it is still a blood thinner when taken everyday. It can cause ulcers, GI Bleeds, and other bleeding issues....

My OB had me taking it because of the same clotting disorder Kary has. But then my RE told me to stop because my homocystine levels were fine. He told me he'd rather I use heparin when pregnant because if something went wrong it's easier to reverse (so that I don't bleed uncontrollably).

I saw that you are taking Synthroid to see if that helps you not m/c... have they tested your thyroid at all? Do you test your thyroid while on Synthroid? I've never heard of someone being on it just to see if it helps you not m/c. I'm actually hypo myself & had been on it a while back but switched to Armour now.

Well, my dr told me this story. Basically this cow that was worth a lot of money was getting inseminated and miscarrying it's babies in the field. Lots of dr's came to try to figure out what was wrong, did bloodwork and everything looked normal. He said that one dr came and acted all like it was no big deal and said to give it thyroid treatment and feed it molasses. So they did exactly that and ever since then the cow has not had a m/c. He said he's tried this treatment on other patients and it has been 100% successful. My thyroid appeared as normal, but he said that even if it's in normal range there still could be problems with it. I haven't had it tested while taking it, so idk. I'm up for trying whatever, so.

I am a little confused about you taking synthroid with soy. If the doc thinks you might have sub-clinical hypothyroidism, where you test normal, but still have some indicators of a problem, it doesn't make sense to have you on soy at the same time. Soy is contraindicated to take while on synthroid, or if you have thyroid issues.

Has the doc tested you for thyroid anti-bodies? If not, it might be a good idea, because many people with sub-clinical hypo actually have Hashimotos. If this is the case, then you could have a clotting disorder, where the baby aspirin would be helpful. Once I get settled in my new house, I am requesting the test for the clotting disorder since my thyroid antibodies were high, and with the dose of synthroid I take htey shouldn't be, since my thyroid i almost completely suppressed.

I agree with Nutmeg about getting your antibodies tested but not so much on the soy though I understand where she's coming from. I also think that if you are taking Synthroid, even the lowest dose, they should at least monitor your Thyroid levels (Free T3, Free T4, & TSH (most only monitor TSH)) 6 wks after prescribing the Synthroid then every 6 months after that. You don't want to go hyper on it. It's good that your dr is thinking outside the box & willing to try things other dr's probably won't but you really need to be monitored IMO. Even if you are sub-clinical hypo, those tests should show it, i.e. you would be at the upper end of normal, I would think.

About the soy... if you are sub-clinically hypo, soy is technically a no-no since it is a goitrogenic, meaning that it slows down an already impaired or slow thyroid. But to be honest, I (knowing this) could possibly see myself doing soy in the future since 1) you only do it for 5 days, 2) if you're on thyroid medication it should correct for the slowness the soy may cause, & 3) it works like Clomid which we know that I need Clomid or some other O-inducing drug to help me get pg.

You may consider dropping by the Thyroid Disorders board... there is lots of info there & several ladies that can answer questions (myself & nutmeg included ). GL & don't stress too much... I'm sure your dr is taking good care of you.

Lindsey,

I agree with the pp on being monitored while on synthroid, T3, T4 and TSH. I would also check your lab values for normal range. There are a lot of labs that are still using the outdated standard of .5 - 5.0 on TSH. My endo uses .3 - 3.0, with patients TTC/Pregnant under 2. She keeps mine close to 1.0 because I get heat/cold hives and retain water at 2. Over medicating thyroid is just as harmful to TTC as under medicating. Too my thyroid hormone will halt ovulation.

My Endo ran a full panel of TTG antibodies. It is common for people with autoimmune thyroid to also produce Anti-Cardiolipin or antiphospholipid antibodies, which cause clotting problems.

My hematologist told me that Baby aspirin will not help my particular clotting disorders (Protien C/S deficiency) and that the only solution is blood thinners. It does help some, but there are some dangers in taking it.

I wish you the best of luck, and pray this is your sticky bean!

Thanks ladies. I'll have to talk to my dr about it at some point. I even considered going off the thyroid medicine. I mean if nothing's wrong then why take it? KWIM? Maybe it's a progesterone problem, not a thyroid problem. And all this bloodwork sounds like a lot of money. I don't have insurance and it costs me $70 just to go to the dr. I'm not sure what the lab values were, but he said they were in normal range.
Zkat- I wondered about the halting ovulation since I ovulated VERY late for me this cycle. And I didn't get pg this cycle and I did everything just like before when I got my bfp's.
Inhishands- I just tried the soy this time since I ovulated late last month and didn't get my bfp. I didn't ask my dr about it. And I am on the lowest dose of the synthroyid. I guess I should probably get more bloodwork done

Thanks guys!!!! Yall know much more about all this stuff than I do. All I know is I'm willing to try whatever I can to have a successful pregnancy.
