As I've said before, I'm pretty sure I'm losing these babies, I'll have a better idea on Monday. I might have a miracle, but I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst. I'll be in my Dr's office, and I'm sure she'll do another ultrasound at the very least and an examination.

My question is, if she thinks I need to do a D&C, will it happen right there in her office or be scheduled at a hospital? If so, same day or a few days later?

At 7 weeks, what are the odds I'll need a D&C as opposed to being told to just wait it out?

And will I bleed much afterwards? If I do a D&C will they normally be able to run tests on the embryos?

Will I be all the way out or will I be awake? Is it very painful physically? Will I be able to go home or do they keep you for observation?

I'm scared and trying to get used to the idea now.

I really hope you don't have another loss

As for the D&C questions...I had a D&C in a surgery center, that was across the street from the hospital, and I had one in the hospital when I went to the ER...I'm not sure it's the same everywhere else...They will most likely put you to sleep during the D&C, so i'm sure they probably will not do it in their office...It's considered a surgery....I'm not sure about waiting it out at 7 weeks....I was farther a long when I had my missed miscarriage and my doctor was worried I would hemorrhage at home, and/or it can take a very long time for the miscarriage to happen...I think they can run tests after a D&C...With mine they collected everything and sent it off to pathology, but the baby was in pieces and the only thing they could tell was the baby was it's left foot ...I have to say that I do prefer the D&C over the natural miscarriage...It was very painful to miscarry at home when I was 9 weeks a long...with my D&C, I don't remember anything...Afterwards you will probably just need to rest for the day, but I recovered fairly quickly...I had some cramps and a little bleeding, it wasn't that bad....The only thing about my D&C that I don't like is that I had no closure since I was asleep and don't remember anything...Good luck to you and I hope you don't have to go through any of this.

I'm so sorry for what you are going through.

I have had 2 d & c's and both were pretty different as far as the after/recovery.

The first one I was 11.5 weeks (baby stopped growing around 10.5 w) and the second one I was about 8 weeks but it was a blighted ovum/empty sac that probably stopped growing around 5 weeks.

Both times my doctor gave me the option to wait it out and try and miscarry naturally or to have the d & c. I opted for the d & c both times. The second time I did wait a couple of weeks first to see if I might have a natural miscarriage, but since I had no signs of it happenning I went through with the d & c. I had the procedures done in outpatient surgery at the hospital and was put under anethesia both times. The procedure itself is like 20 minutes long but with all the prep and having to get there 2 hours early, we were at the hospital for about 4 hours total.

After the first one I had cramping and bleeding/clots on and off for almost 2 months(which is unusually long). I think they may have missed some of the tissue during the procedure and that is why I bled for so long and my body had to get rid of the rest on it's own. It is somewhat common for this to happen.

The second d & c was much easier. I had almost no cramping or bleeding. I spotted for about 14 days and then it stopped. I was feeling good by the next day. I felt completely back to normal within a couple weeks when all the hcg was out of my system.

From what I was told about bleeding after is that it should be similar or possibly lighter than a normal period.

They did testing on both babies (although the second was just sac) and they found nothing. Both had 46 normal chromosomes. They were able to tell me the genders too, which for some reason gave me some closure. Even though they didn't find anything, they could tell from this that the cause wasn't a genetic/chromosmal disorder that would likely repeat itself over and over, so that was somewhat of good news.

I am glad I had the d & c and I felt better pyschologicall afterward to know the pregnancy was over and I could focus on healing, rather than waiting around for a impending natural miscarriage that could happen at any time and any place or not happen for several week while I waited it out.

I really can't answer most of your questions except that you will be knocked out. And for me it wasn't painful at all... took a few hours then I was allowed to go home. I ended up m/c-ing naturally at home but went to the ER b/c of the pain where they did a D&C to remove the remaining conception items.

I hope you do not have another loss.

When I found out that my baby's heart beat had stopped, my doctor gave me the option to have the D&C or wait it out (even though I was 12 weeks and it had already been almost 4 weeks since the baby died and my body wasn't miscarrying yet).

The D&C was done as an outpatient surgery at the hospital 2 days after we found out we lost the baby. I was not awake for the procedure. I had some bleeding and cramping the night of the D&C. After that, I just had spotting for a couple weeks. My recovery went really well.

My hcg levels didn't go down for a long time, but I'm not sure I can blame the D&C on that. My body just didn't really seem to want to let go of that pregnancy. I don't regret getting the D&C at all. I don't think I could have handled walking around, starting to show, and knowing that my baby wasn't alive anymore.
