Just found out that my progesterone is 0.5 and I am 5DPO and know that I'm pregnant. I've had three previous consecutive miscarriages. Just wondering if any of you deal with low progesterone and what steps you have taken to remedy the problem.

Hi ya, I tend towards low as well and my gynae instructed me that as soon as I get a positive pregnancy test to supplement with Utrogestan 100mg twice a day. I have also seen some progesterone creams and was toying with the idea of using that as well.

Good luck and sticky vibes to you

HI.. I am a little confused? If you are 5PDO how do you know you are pregnant?
With a progesterone level that low.. it doesn't even sound like you ovulated. I am assuming you are being followed by a Dr. Since you had blood drawn. While women with low progesterone have shorted LP's... What is yours? If you do have low progesterone Your Dr will put you on an oral (most popular) pill form of progesterone. But your numbers are just not low.. they are almost non existant. That level is that of a Pre-ovulatory cycle. I would question a level of 0.5

I agree...it doesn't sound like you have ovulated yet or they would be higher. I tend to have low progeterone...like 8-10 about 12-15 days past ovulation. I just started taking B6 and Vitex. Both are designed to increase progesterone and balance hormones.

".... A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle."

I agree with Kary.. I have never heard of someone finding out about a pregnancy at 5DPO, even on a blood test. And such a low prog number indicates you didn't ovulate. Are you sure of the number?

Hi all, I just wanted to update on this. I was certain of the pregnancy. It's really hard to explain. I have eight children and now when I get pregnant I have day after symptoms, symptoms that are undeniable for me. Wish I understood how that could be but I don't, I just know that I have them and when I test it comes up positive. However, I can't seem to get a urine test to come up positive for me anymore. My husband was a phlebotomist for years, so we do a home blood test, that's how I get my results, and they are usually very stong.

I agree that my levels were extremely low, very discouraging. I did end up loosing that pregnancy as well, but was able to hold onto it for longer than the previous three miscarriages.

We are in the process of moving to Germany. As soon as we are settled we are going to talk to the Dr's and start trying again.

I normally do not use an OB, because I home birth, but most homebirth midwives in the states don't deal with conception problems, and I've never had much of an issue before. My midwife is the one who drew the blood test for me, so I would know my levels since I suspicioned a progesterone issue.

I'm looking forward to tracking down the issue with my body. I do not have short LP's, I have regular cycles. Ovulation occurs most of the time around CD day 11,12, or 13. Seems strange that I don't have any issues with my LP since my progesterone is that low. I never spot or anything like you would expect with low progesterone.

I think to some degree tracking down the problem could be ALMOST as exciting as actually getting to conceive and have a baby.

I'll keep everyone updated as time goes by.

When I did a IUI cycle my RE had me use progesterone gel that you insert into your vagina. It was very effective but gave me yeast infections so this time around I was put on progesterone 200mg tablets that I took orally.

I understand the feeling of "knowing you are pregnant", but have to side with Kary and the others. With progesterone levels that low I would question if you ovulated this month.

I hope your trip to Germany goes well and you find a great doctor to help you out!

I know I ovulated on the day that I did. It was the only day cervix was soft, high open, and the last day I had EWCM for that cycle. I also had a 25 day LP which would certainly indicate a pregnancy. I know that my progesterone is outrageously low. I'm surprised I don't have some of the other symptoms of low progesterone, like rapid weight loss, that would be a nice one.

By the end of October we should be getting settled into our new home and I hope to begin seeing an OB. I'm hopeful to find one that will listen to what I do know about my body and take that all into consideration. It would be interesting to find out what my hormone levels are before ovulation if the progesterone is that low after ovulation.

So you ended up getting a positive blood test for the pregnancy you mentioned in this thread? What I would recommend is getting a script for a progesterone supplement and start using it right after ovulation every cycle. If you start when your AF would be late it might be too late. Then if you're not pregnant stop taking it.
Good luck.

And yes, progesterone will be very low before ovulation.

I was a phlebotomist for many years.... Those machines that you run HCG Quant/Qual are Thousands of dollars. How do you do a Home blood HCG test???
