Hi Everyone,
I am hoping to join you all... A little bit about myself... My husband, Eric, and I have been together for 13 years (married for 5). In 2007 we got pregnant for the first time and then found out around 11 weeks that there wasn't a heartbeat. I ended up having to have a D & C because my body wasn't miscarrying on its own. In February of 2008 we got pregnant again, but had difficulties during the pregnancy (a placental tear, IUGR, etc.) and had to get induced at 37.5 weeks. On November 14, 2008, our little peanut, Elise, was born at 4 lbs. We stayed in the hospital for a week, but then were able to come home. Minus Elise measuring consistently small, she was doing extremely well. On January 14, 2010 we brought Elise in to the doctor for what we thought was her first cold. It turned out she was in heart failure...she had dilated cardiomyopathy. She fought her hardest over the next month and even ended up coming home, but after a week at home we were back at the hospital getting ready to be flighted to Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, she didn't make it and ended up going into cardiac arrest before the helicopter got there. She passed away on February 14, 2010, she was 15 months old.

We have gone through extensive genetic testing, but all tests have come back normal. According to all of Elise's doctors, they think she had Mitochondrial Disease inherited through her nuclear DNA. This means that we could possibly have a 1 in 4 chance of it happening again.

After a lot of thinking & talking, my husband and I have decided to try for another child. Each month we will re-evaluate and see if we still feel that it is the right thing to do.

So in the meantime, I am hoping that you all can keep me a little calm through the whole process. I am EXTREMELY excited and scared, but am putting our lives in the hands of the big guy and waiting to see what happens.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all!

~Jacquie

What a heart wrenching story. I am so sorry for what you and your husband have been through.

Welcome to the board. The ladies here are great. Please use us a support. There is also a group within the board for those who are waiting to TTC, so if you and your husband end up changing your mind from month to month, please stick around!
