If you ovulate, then yes. I don't think everybody ovulates in their first cycle after a m/c, but it's definitely possible to, and of course a pregnancy is always possible if ovulation occurs...

Well... you wouldn't get AF... you'd get early pg symptoms... eventually you'd probably try a home pg test, and it would be BFP, and then you would go to the doctor, etc as in any other pg... it would be tricky to date early on, since you wouldn't know when you O'd (cycles tend to be irregular after m/c), so your due date might be off a bit, but nothing different than for any woman with irregular cycles. That's all. Nothing too different than any other pg.

OR you could not test, never know, wonder why you keep gaining weight, and end up on TLC "I didn't know I was pregnant" - lol! But around here I'm sure you'd be pushed into peeing on a stick, with all us POAS addicts around.

I have to laugh at you Shen! I don't think that could happen to any of us ladies here though.

But I agree with your answer.

Some docs tell you to wait, some don't. I'm not sure what the actual answer is. I think it's mostly if you feel you are ready-then do it type thing. And I know for sure that even though most of our doctors told us to wait, most of us ladies here were naughty--and did not

lol you ladies are funny... but just was wondering if you didnt wait and accidently concieved I didn't know if it would be risky or complicated since your body didn't really strip everything out of you yet and if you could keep that pregnancy ... just curious ladies..

I don't think you could ovulate until you're body strips everything out--because you would still have HCG in your system, so you wouldn't ovulate til everything was gone. Waiting is mostly just to let your body finish healing, and emotional healing--but I imagine if you get pg again, you are pretty much healed up-so the only healing left needed would be emotional.

Hope that helped.

I agree with Amy. If there's still anything left from the m/c, you won't ovulate, so no problem. I read recently that there's no proven medical benefit to waiting to TTC after m/c, for women in developed countries. They usually say to wait both for emotional healing reasons, and for convenience in terms of dating the next pg. In the developing world, WHO likes women to wait because they tend to have nutritional problems and need the time to get their physical strength up again.

Here's an article (note: ACOG, the organization of American OBGYNs, has no recommendations for how long to wait): Should Women Wait After Miscarriage Before Conceiving Again? - TIME

My friend's sister-in-law conceived in her first cycle after a m/c (before 1st AF), and had healthy fraternal twin boys. For whatever that's worth.

I just wanted to jump in and say yes, it is possible to conceive before your first af after a m/c. I did. I m/c last month and am pg now. I was 5w4d when I lost my baby. My doctor suggested waiting 2 cycles before ttc again. There was no medical reason to wait, he said it was for grieving. I was so early so, it didn't take long for it to happen. The day I started bleeding and went to the ER, my HCG was already down to 9. I started temping and charting after my bleeding stopped. Obviously, I ovulated. I was surprised, though. I thought it would have taken longer to get back to normal.

It's happened several times to our members. If you are preventing and you ovulate, it can definitely happen. Most of our members went on to have completely normal pregnancies. The main reasons your Dr. advises you to wait one cycle is for dating purposes.

Due to my irregular cycles, my doctor said we didn't have to worry about waiting to TTC. She said that we might get a "surprise ovulation", and waiting was only for dating purposes.

I got pg the month after my 1st m/c. We decided not to wait until af came and tried and I happened to get pg. The dr advised us to wait 3 months, but I felt no need to wait since I wasn't that far along. However, I did m/c that one too. I guess it really depends on how far a long you were and if you're emotionally ready. I ovulated late due to the m/c, so your ovulation might be off a little if you ovulate right after it. GL!
