Hi ladies,
As you know I used cytotec a week ago. I've been charting all along and my temps are not going down!
How long did it take your temps to go down after a m/c?
I think there are two possibilities in my case
1) the m/c wasn't complete (uggh I hope not)
2) because my hcg was so high at the time - 149,000 (and might still be high, even if it's going down as evidenced by lighter HPT) that it's keeping my corpus luteum active and it's producing progesterone and keeping my temp up. Essentially that's what HCG does, it provides support for the corpus luteum to produce progesterone..
Any thoughts?
UPDATE (Mon Oct 4)
I went for my follow up u/s...
Guess what - not only is the gestation sac still there, but now there's a yolk sac too that they never saw before.. still no baby though. I wasn't expecting a miracle but I wasn't expecting a yolk sac either - they had told me after each of my previous u/s that the gestational sac was completely empty.
The Gsac is measuring 3 days behind but it has still grown from last time.
Now I have to decide whether to go for a second round of cytotec or go for a D&C..
No wonder my temps are still up. I do wonder what it is that came out last week when I used cytotec.. I was positive it was the sac.. maybe there were two and one was hiding the other?
Oh well.. now I have to make this decision. I'm going for a beta draw tomorrow to see what's going on with that.. I had sex last night and have been bleeding a bit since so maybe things are gonna move along naturally now?

I don't have any suggestions but wanted you to know how special you are and I am sorry for your loss. ((Hugs))

It probably won't go down until you are getting negative hpts which may take some time since your hcg was so high. If they turn to completely negative, then you aren't retaining anything. I ovulated 19 days after mine was negative but I wasn't temping at the time, just using opks. I hope it goes down soon and you can move on to TTC.

My temps stayed high for two to three weeks after my D&C. I had HCG in my system for 11 weeks (for an unknown reason, I didn't have retained tissue). I also would have had high HCG at the time of my loss because I was 12 weeks. I hope everything resolves itself soon!

Judy,
I think you're right and that's probably what's keeping your temps up. However if you're concerned I'd definitely call your doctor. Are they following your beta's to zero or close to zero?
I'm sorry this is confusing and scary don't have much advise to give. In my experiences...I quit taking my temp after so long after getting a +, ladies over here and at pal said it'll freak you out when they dip which it did. Then I didn't start temping right away after my losses either, not sure exactly what they were doing in correlation with the hcg #'s.

Thanks so much for the reassurance ladies.
Celena, I have a standing order requisition for hcg betas at my dr's clinic so I just go in whenever I want a draw. I'll start next week.
I have my first post m/c u/s on Monday when they'll be able to tell me whether it's all clear in there. So I'm being given follow up care, which is great.
I really hope it's all clear!

I have no idea what to tell you. If it was me, I would probably wait and have my hcg checked a few times before deciding anything.
Thinking of you!
How far along should you have been?

Thanks Lisa
I should have been about 9 weeks 3-5 days. At 8 weeks my hcg was 149,000.

Hmmm I guess they def. should have seen more than just the sac and everything else by then. What did they say about your beta's being that at 8 weeks? Did they say if it was too high or anything?
If it was me I would still probably see what my beta's are doing. I am not sure if I would take the meds or just opt for the D&C. I didn't really have a choice before with mine. My dr. just said that he was going to induce me. I could do it that day or wait a couple days. Are you going to have anything sent to pathology? If you do, then I would opt for the D&C.

They said the hcg was normal for 8 weeks. I am going to get my beta done tomorrow.. to see if maybe it's going down. I think it's pretty hopeless when it comes to seeing a baby after all this time. You have a good point about the pathology test. I will ask whether they can do that.
Using the pills was really painful, I don't really wanna go through with that. And they do D&Cs every day so I think the chance of something going wrong is pretty low right?
Thanks

oh wow, i'm sorry at least they gave you an ultrasound so you know now...I would probably wait for the blood tests, and if it were me, i'd probably do the D&C...The sooner it's over with, the sooner you can move on (((Hugs)))

DH and I talked and I'm not going to do anymore blood tests. I don't really see the point. I've had 4 ultrasounds and there was no baby on any of them. It won't really make a difference either.. my hcg has been going up all this time and we haven't seen a baby.. so if it goes up again, what then? Same as before.. go for another ultrasound, etc.. Besides, hcg starts to level out around this time and even decline in normal pregnancies... and I already took the cytotec which is known to cause birth defects if there is a baby and it survives.
I don't want to be poked and prodded anymore than I have to.. so today I will call them to schedule it.
Thanks ladies.

I'm so sorry you're going through this... if you do decide on the D&C, it really isn't anything to be worried about. It's worse emotionally than physically. I hope you get everything resolved soon.

Lots of T&Ps your way. Having the u/s show no baby the first time, and then going back and having a second sac, i'm so sorry you had to go thru so much.
