I got a much too early call this morning from my OB. I love that man. Too bad he's married with 7 kids.
Anyway, he said he wanted to call about my labs from the ER. My hcg was 45, thyroid was borderline but I didn't hear if It was hyper or hypo, A1c was 7.1, and I'm anemic. He wants me to get labs again on Fri.
Can being anemic cause a mc? I'm starting on iron today. He wants me to wait another 2mths to ttc but I really don't want to.

I'm not sure if it can cause you to miscarry...I was anemic in my first pregnancy...I did however get anemic with my last 2 miscarriages from the blood loss...did you bleed a lot before you got your blood tested?

I was anemic when I was pg with ds. I got on Iron supplements. I haven't read anything about it, but I'm not sure if it would cause a m/c

I became anemic after my 5th because I had an abruption but I wasn't anemic with my 6th. I didn't have a ton of bleeding until this morning so I think I must have been anemic before the blood test. I'm passing lots of blood clots now which I think is strange considering how early I was. I just don't have any reason for all of this.

Rebecca, what was your TSH number? I just ask because so many docs have different things that they consider normal.

I agree with nicole about your thyroid...I was told by one doctor my levels were fine, then got pregnant (this was in 2005) had them tested right away, and they weren't normal...I actually probably had cancer then and didn't know it...I would look more into it...Good luck!

I wasn't told my TSH this time around. He was more concerned that my iron was so low. I'll have to go see if I can find my labs done before. It's pretty confusing but if I can find it, I'll try to explain it all.
I've been told I have borderline hyperthyroid since I was a kid. It was actually hyper after one of my pregnancies but at my 6week follow up, it was back to borderline. I was treated for hyper at one time because I begged a Dr. to treat it, but after 3 months, we both decided it wasn't helping.
So then in comes a different dr.
Ok, my labs from before my other MC were
TSH .47
Free T4 1.23
Free T3 2.6
The Dr. at the time said my TSH showed I have hyperthyroid but my Free T3 showed it was hypo. Make any sense? He wanted to increase my Free t3 so he started me on cytomel. I had a really bad reaction to it though, thought I was having a heart attack, couldn't stand up etc etc... He finally pulled me off it. He then stopped practicing and moved to another state.
I'll find out on Friday what my TSH was. They didn't run the T3 or T4 tests.

Rebecca, I don't know about the free T3 and free T4, but I think that doctors shoot for a range of 0.5 to 2 on the TSH during pregnancy (so .47 isn't bad at all). KUP on what your most recent TSH level was. And take care of yourself!!

Ugh, still waiting for the doctors office to call. Why does it take longer at their lab?

I don't know if being anemic causes miscarriage, but I pretty much have been anemic my whole life and had no issues with my boys at all. Hmmmm.... something to think about for me now though.
Test results should come back a lot faster if they have an in house lab vs it being sent out. At my RE's office if I get bloods drawn before 11am I get the results by 3pm that day.
