Okay, I don't normally name fish, but this guy has become my buddy. He comes to the side every time I walk by and if I stop and look at him he stops and looks at me. So...I've decided he needs name. Any suggestions?

I know 3 or 4 people who have a fish named Gill. lol It's a great name for a fish but I've never been one to name something a really popular name. lol

Finley is AWESOME! lol. I think that goes in the "serious consideration" pile!

I've been naming my fish following a greek god/goddess theme. Zeus?

I don't know if you already know this, but I can't help myself. I'm a major fish geek. sorry! If you already know all this, feel free to ignore me lol

Betta facts:

*Bettas like more space than any pet store will tell you. 2 gallons, heated to 80 degrees F, unfiltered is perfect.

*Make sure he gets a 100% water change with dechlorinated water once a week or his beautiful fins will rot away.

Here's a link to the BEST water conditioner around. I swear by this stuff.:
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Stress Coat Aquarium Water Conditioner at PETCO

*I love the decoration, from what little I can see of it. For ease of cleaning, you might want to consider going bare bottom (no marbles) and getting weighted plants that sink to the bottom. Those are easily located at any pet store. Bettas love lots of plants, but make sure they have no sharp edges, so he doesn't snag and rip those lovely fins. Something else you could add for interest and for use by your little guy is a small terracotta flower pot (unfinished as the finish can sometimes have bad stuff in it) and tip it on its side. Instant cheap hide and looks really cute.

Betta/general aquarium forum:
UltimateBettas

Sorry for the overload haha. *is a fish geek* If you actually read this, that's amazing lol

oh Skybaby, I've had my own aquarium since I was 11. lol. Yes, I know a lot about fish and have worked in a couple different pet stores myself. I actually have a betta in Erin's aquarium with the heat and everything because I know they like warm water. This guy I only have in a bowl because I rescued him from a friend's wedding reception decorations (she had one on each table). I don't have room for another aquarium, I can't put him in the little aquarium since there's already one in there, and I can't put him in the big aquarium since I have enormous Jack Dempsys in it that don't let anything else be put in there (except my pleco, but that's because he's too thick skinned [and much bigger than them]). I just got him a much bigger bowl because the little one from the reception was breaking my heart. And cleaning's not a big deal at all. I hate empty-bottomed containers because you SEE all the droppings and I would feel like cleaning it out several times a day which just isn't good for fishies. The marbles mean that I'm only cleaning it out once a week, which is fine by me.

And thanks for all your suggestions ladies! I think Finley has won it. That suggestion was like he was telling me his name. lol Thanks Lori!

WOW, he's a beaut! How about Irwin like Steve Irwin...

Or

Fizzgag like that little critter in The Dark Crystal

Petey (it's just cute and sounds adorable coming out of a little ones voice)

Oswald (like Oswald the octopus, loved that show!)

Rummey, Rubiex/Rubix (since his ruby red color)
