My gp knows we're ttc, she's prescribes meds that are ok during this time as well as pg'y... Well today she changes bp med which is known to cause 2nd & 3rd trimester fetal abnormalities worst case death. I'm scared to take it, almost rather deal with dizziness from the other one she tried me on (that IS used for pg moms) I already am having a hard time with ttcal, several losses and I don't want to add something that I'm unsure about.
I get a raise I'm bp under stressful situations so she wants me on bp mess because the spikes and decals aren't good for my heart which I get that. I'm just so stubborn to take any meds period and always researching them, but sometimes I just don't take them if they're questionable.
Wth do I do?!

I'm sorry, Celena Are there any other options for bp meds that are safer for pg, other than the one that's making you dizzy?

I'd tell her that you really don't feel comfortable with that one and request another. YOU are in charge of your health, you pay her. So bring it up.

I wouldn't take the new meds and keep trying the other, or i'd call her up and tell her to try something that's safe...I'm sure there are plenty safe to take while pregnant. (((Hugs))) I hope you get things worked out

What meds were you on? Which do they want you on now?
I've been on my share of bp meds before and after pregnancy and can tell you which ones are safe.

Celena, I totally understand your fear. I wonder if the bp med only affects the fetus if you take it during the 2nd and 3rd trimester? Is it safe for 1st? Im asking cause I know with those antibiotics I was on, they are ok in pregnancy until the bones and teeth are being formed. Maybe she thinks you should take those and then switch when you do get pregnant.
Doctors dont think like we do. We think "I dont care if Im not preg right now, I could be in 2 weeks, and dont want ANYTHING to even be close to me if its not safe for my entire pregnancy!"
I think I wouldnt take it either, and would want to get something safer.

Really? She knows you are TTC and still does this to you? Like you need more stress to increase your BP! Get an approved list from Rebecca and call the doctors office tomorrow with the list. Do not wait the month until you go back there!! You need to take care of YOU as well so you can be as healthy as possible before you get pregnant.
Sheesh... Do I really need to come down there?

I'm not sure if you were on Labetolol but you can take that one while TTC/PG.
Are you checking your BP at home? Maybe your dose was just too high and you were dizzy from low BP, or maybe the dose was too low and you were dizzy from high BP.
I hope you get it sorted out!

Labetelol is what I was always switched to. I'm normally on Lisinopril (sp?) Which causes birth defects. I'm completely off everything now but I have a bp cuff and have to check my bp throughout the day. Usually, as soon as I'm pg it shoots up. I've been on a couple other meds that gave me headaches. I also have this wonderful condition where when I stand up my bp drops so I was also on stimulants to help that but there is a chance of it harming a fetus so I also stopped those. I have to take meds at night because I get really dizzy.
I hope you get it figured out.

I would call the doctor and tell her that you don't feel comfortable taking the meds, and that you give you something that is safe while TTC/PG.

That' what she just gave me the other day that scares me, Lisinopril.
Have been on labetelol for the longest.
A couple of appointments ago she gave me Procardia which is the one that caused the dizziness. But I'd rather deal with that, been taking it a few days straight and it's not as bad.
Please tell me more about the different ones and these ones Rebecca, I appreciate all of your help.
Thanks for backing me up ladies... I'm paranoid in both aspects of not taking care of myself as well as taking more meds with scary side effects on baby.

I wouldn't take the Lisinopril. My GP always warned me against it and capotin (which I was on) while pregnant. They can cause birth defects, although I'm not sure when, he just always said to stop it if I ever became pregnant.
I've been on Methyldopa, hydralazine, Labetelol, diazoxide and procardia. The procardia gave me headaches though. My perinatologist liked the Labetelol and hydralazine and I was switched back and forth on those a lot. Anything that is an ACE inhibitor isn't safe during pregnancy and any doctor should know that. If the procardia is working, I'd stay on that.
