This was my first D&C, all my other losses where spontaneous.

I haven't bled much at all, Saturday I had a few small clots, but really not even as heavy as a period. Now it's pretty much just when I wipe. I finished the drug that they give you that contracts your uterus yesterday morning.

However, I still hurt. Cramps aren't bad, they are fairly mild, but I'm just plain sore. I read on some sites that there isn't suppose to be much pain involved other than cramping. Dr. did give me vicodin but I don't want to take it during the day.
Is this normal?

I never had drugs to contract your uterus, so I don't know what that's like...It's hard to remember, but I know I started cramping the day after my D&C, and i'm pretty sure that I was "sore" for about the first week, but the pain wasn't too bad...I'd say if your in a lot of pain to call your doctor.

Hi Sam. Sorry you are here

I had cramping for a few weeks, felt generally sore, and bled very little with both of my D&C's. Since you took the meds to contract your uterus, you will be a little more sore for about a week. My first I took those meds, this last one they didn't give them to me. I took the pain meds they gave me and it helped a lot. I am sorry you are going through this.

I didn't have cramping in the days after my D&C. My bleeding was really light for a few days right after and I thought I was gonna get away with things easy, but then it started pretty heavy and is just stopping now, almost 3 weeks later. I hope your D&C is complete and you won't have to go back. Are you having blood work done to make sure your HCG is going down or are they just having you back in a few weeks for a follow up check up?
They didn't give me any drugs to make the uterus contract AFTER the D&C, only before it, so that has me a bit confused but they're the pros.

Thanks ladies!
I hate that all of us are still here. Actually I wish there was no reason for this board.
The pain is tolerable, I'm taking the rx strength ibuprofen right now- may hit the other stuff at night. I do go back in two weeks for a blood test and a recheck. I didn't see my doctor after I woke up, but DH is pretty sure that she got everything.
Hardest thing was my step-sil works for the same department as me. I had to tell her this morning (should have known that my mil wouldn't), so that of course started all the emotions again.

Sam....I'm so sorry you are going through this. I went back to work 2 days after the d&c so I know the cramps were not as bad, I can't remember how much I was bleeding, but I remembered that it did pick up when I came back to work and I started moving around. After the weekend the bleeding slowed way down.

I'm so sorry that you're back here again. I had my first d&c in September. I didn't have any meds to contract my uterus. They gave me percocet for the cramping, but I never filled it. I didn't have much cramping at all. The bleeding was light the first few days, and I thought I was getting off lucky, but it started up heavier soon after that thought, and didn't completely stop until 4 weeks after the surgery.

My story was more or less like everyone else. I didn't have much bleeding at all, which surprised me. My friend who is a nurse said that can be very normal. But I did have intermittant cramps for a while. I think you need to just let your body work it out. I think if the cramps are really bad, or if you have anything else that would not seem ok to go ahead and call, but otherwise it's been a major disruption to what your body was doing. Let it heal....and hang in there.

Is this normal?[/QUOTE]
I had my D&C on Friday, I was "fine" pain wise Saturday an Sunday. By Monday it hurt when I moved a certain way. By Tuesday it hurt to walk, or sit up. My stomach was tender, an I just hurt. I went to the Dr an I had a uterine infection caused by the D&C At first my Dr brushed me off and didn't want me to come in because I did not have a fever. But I knew something was wrong. Make sure your pain is decreasing, and not increasing. OTC pain meds could not take my pain away.

I guess compared to everyone else, my complications were mild... I actually returned to work the day after the D&C, although I probably should've stayed home. (While I do drive around for my job and make site visits, I am primarily at a desk... I had a couple meetings that I wanted to attend the day after the D&C (as opposed to someone else covering them), so I still went to work.) Anyway, my bleeding was minimal, like a light-medium period. I had little soreness/cramping, although I did take some advil a day or two after the procedure because I had some "annoying" cramping/pains. The doctor did give me a prescription for Percocet or something, but I didn't take it.

Sorry, I can't help you much. If you continue to experience pain I would call the doctor though!

I agree that telling people is hard. I only told one person at work, and it was before the procedure.. I was crying at work for the rest of the week anyway (with my door closed!), if I had to tell someone I wouldn't have been able to handle it

I had my first (and hopefully only!) D&C on 9/30. I had light to medium bleeding for a little less than a week. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought. It was mild cramping off and on and I just took tylenol to help with it.

I'd definitely say to be seen if you are not getting better soon. hugs!
