hello everyone..I know that this is extremely off topic but I know there are a lot of women on this forum and I'm hoping that maybe some of you may have some knowledge about this problem I'm having. This is embarrassing but here it goes...The past few times my husband and I have had sex, I've had a strong alkaline or fishy smell the next morning, along with a lot of clear discharge in my underwear. I've been having this lately, and I have had this happen a couple times in the past right after I got married. When it happened before it would just go away on its own after a week or so. Normally I never notice any odor down there and my husband says he doesnt either. Also, I ONLY get this odor after unprotected sex. When we use a condom everything is fine. My husband and I have had sex 3 times in the past week and after each time the smell is there. After I shower really well it seems to go away almost entirely. After showering, I still feel like I can smell a faint odor for about a day and then it seems gone.
I've heard that sex can altar the vaginal ph, because sperm is alkaline while the vagina is acidic. I know that if your vaginal ph gets off enough it can cause problems like bacterial vaginosis, which is what I'm worried about. I get a pap smear every year and I just had my yearly on November 1st.At that time my ob/gyn noticed a lot of discharge and so he decided to take a look at it in the microscope. He said it looked normal. I was not having any problems then however. This past week I'm having problems. I've had 3 miscarriages in the past year and we are currently TTC this cycle. I've read that bacterial vaginosis can cause misarriages and that it can come and go. Is it possible that I have BV coming and going and just simply can't get an ob/gyn to 'catch' it at just the right time?? I'm probably going to call my ob/gyn, but I'm not sure what to think. And I don't understand why this odor only occurs from time to time after unprotected sex.

I would go ahead and call your ob just in case it is something serious but it sounds to me pretty normal. Every guys sperm smells different and it may be the combo of the two of you.

sex unprotected will leave a different smell to you but it should not be terribly foul smelling ,the clear discharge is normal, but get both him and yourself tested to be on the safe side.

I agree with the other ladies! I also wanted to say that after you have unprotected sex you should use the bathroom at least within 30 minutes (OB said because you could get an infection). But I always have a different odor after we BD.

Could be nothing, could be BV, could be something else. BV was what I thought when I was reading your post, but again, it could just be your body's reaction. I'd say definitely go in and get it checked out while you're noticing a "flare up" of sorts.

thank you all so much for the replies...I've been kinda hestitant to dtd right now, but we had waited a couple of days and I seemed okay, so we dtd this afternoon. So far everything seems okay, but maybe its still too early to tell. I think I'm going to try to wait it out at least a little and keep an eye on things. If I have any more trouble, I'm definetely going to call my ob/gyn since this is not my norm.
Shortcake..you bring up a good point about going to the bathroom after sex. I've been kind of obsessive in a way after sex. I want to get pregnant so badly that after sex, I will lay there for at LEAST 30 minutes because I don't want to lose anything if you catch my drift. But thinking about it, that is pretty bad and I'm betting that whatever doesn't 'make the move' in that time probably wont make the move. (?) LOL
I've been to the doctor so many freaking times this year. I just hope that my body will take care of itself here. I'm thinking maybe its just a mild imbalance..sorry for rambling though....thank you all again

Have you tried a mild douche? Maybe that would help?

gross question, but do you happen to know what he ate that day. Some veggies can mess with their "odor".

I was told by my doctor that sitting propped up doesn't really help lol but I still do it for 15 minutes and then hurry up and go to the bathroom.

I get Bactieria infections down there a couple times a year ever since I had my daughter.
I had a IUD put in right after her birth and then had it removed months later from problems with it and I got my first one, This summer I weaned my daughter... got another one. A month after my miscarriage I just got another one. I called my dr to ask for a script to be sent in and I asked the nurse why this is happening. She said Hormonal changes, If you wear underware that is not white the dye can cause it. Over washing can cause it (this is one I just have to keep doing..lol). Not using the restroom after sex.
I think mine is hormone related. Before I had my daughter I use to get yeast infections all the time to. I think I just have PH balance problems.
