I am a wedding photographer and in the last month I had 3 weddings for 2011 cancel (only good thing is I get to keep the deposit).
1- said her finace left her (think maybe she forgot I am on her facebook because she is always on there talking about him and her going to X-mas partys and such. plus her maid of honor was talking about planning the bachlorett party on her wall last week... so not sure what that was all about)
2- lost her job and insurance so they just went to the court house because she can not wait 1 year for heath insurance. And because she lost her job they canceled the wedding due to money. (this one I totally understand)
3- THE PUNCH IN THE GUT... I just got ANOTHER one this morning and she said she needs to cancel her wedding because she acidently got pregnant. This is a friend of a friend who knows I just lost a baby.
SO losing all these weddings is not helping with the huge medical bill from the D&C. Makes me wonder if it keeps happening like this if I can afford a new baby.
This economy SUCKS!!!!

I agree the economy does suck. I am sorry you have lost those jobs. Hopefully things will pick up for you.

The economy is really hard out there. In the past year I have watched friends lose houses and move in with family/friends, lose jobs, file bankruptcy ect.... I have one friend who was making 200K a year ago who is on welfare now and had to sell everything. Vent here, keep your reputation great, and market yourself as much as possible. ((Hugs)) I hope it turns around for you soon.

Thanks ladies I am sooooo happy to have stumbled on this group. The old group I was with there are almost no members left and there was 3 of us in the TTC group so it was boring... well they graduated last month and I was left all alone.
Funny thing is after I sent this I got 2 wedding Emails for next year. Who knows if they will book or not but its looking better. Now all I need is a BFP next week

Good luck with everything. That really stinks that you had some cancel on you.
I hope it picks up soon! I do landscape/nature photography but I don't make much money off it.

(((hugs)))) I'm sorry this is happening to you ...I agree the economy does suck! my husband has made almost 20K less than what he usually makes this year (he's in construction)...I sometimes wonder if we can afford another baby too, but like someone told me on here a while ago, there never is a right time to have a baby....Something will always come up, so that's what i keep saying...Plus hopefully things will get better again

One question. Do you only do weddings? Have you thought of doing family pictures that kind of thing?

Megan, Your right if you wait until you think you are ready money wise you probably will never have kids. The only good thing is I have everything still from my daughter will only need to buy a few things like new car seat because her's exprired May 2011. The nursery I did in unisex just in case I had another one I would not have to do it all over again and that baby bedding is so expensive.
Plus I think its wrong when people have baby showers for each pregnancy so I can not rely on that.
Patty, I will pretty much photograph anything that pays but the money is in Weddings and Seniors so that is all I advertize for. I find that sometimes doing familys and kids are more work for less money so i just do friends and family shoots for that.

Sorry about all that. Our economy over here sucks too. My husband was made redundant right after we lost Elijah but hopefully he won't have to go back to work, he's been working on getting a business up and running with his brother.
Hope your 2 prospects book with you!

I agree with the baby showers. I think once for each gender is okay, but after that? I think if someone tried to throw me a baby shower again I'd have a really hard time letting them. I don't mind throwing a party for my baby but I wouldn't necessarily want gifts.
