Well my lab work for all major clotting problems came back negative, but I did come back positive for a minor mutation...I can't remember the name, it was so long lol...She said treatment for it is just aspirin and extra folic acid...I wish I could remember the name...As for my spotting mid cycle she said she would treat it with clomid (and she thinks that is why my ovulation was late this cycle)...I'm not sure how I feel about clomid, I mean I never had problems getting pregnant, but I think something is going on with my body...So i'm going tomorrow to get my progesterone checked...She also said we can do farther testing to see if I have scar tissue in my uterus or I can keep TTC on my own and see what happens along with the aspirin and folic acid (Also, should I ask for prescription folic acid, or just over the counter)...She said she can also do genetic testing on both me and DH, but I told her that I didn't think we needed it since we have 4 children and she agrees...So I guess right now it's just a wait and see...She's going to a confrence tomorrow and is going to bring up my situation and see what the other doctors have to say...She said that she thinks that my pregnancy losses might not be related to eachother and that if it was the clotting mutation that I would of had problems with blood clots in the past...I wish I knew the name so I could do some more reading.

How does clomid stop mid cycle bleeding? Is it because being on meds cause more or larger follies which in turn produce more progesterone? What was your P4 last cycle?

Megan, I wish you knew the name too!!!! But it doesn't sound like too big of a deal if it can be treated with aspirin and folic acid. As for the Clomid, I definitely think you should wait on this next progesterone result... I think last cycle's test right before AF is pretty useless. How about your thyroid... didn't the nurse say it looked off?

Tobi, I think you've got it right.. they figure Clomid produces a stronger O with more progesterone.

Yes I think that's what she was getting at, stronger O and more progesterone...My chances of twins are already really high (they run in my mom's family, my grandma is a twin and had a set of twins), and I think it goes up the more pregnancy's you've had (My great-grandma had twins during her 6th pregnancy, my grandma during her 4th), and with clomid raising the chances of twins makes me nervous...I don't really want twins....She said that my progesterone was low, but it wasn't the right time to take it, so we are testing it again.

Also about my thyroid, I think she said my T3 was high, and thyroid producing hormone was low, but it was that way when I had my draw done in October and my thyroid doctor said that it was good...She is going to email him and ask about it...He knows i'm TTC, so she thinks maybe he is over doing the meds because of that, and she didn't really seem to worried about my thyroid.

I think it's the MTHFR gene mutation, but she said the whole name, which was really long.

Is it methyltetrahydrofolate reductase? My daughter has Cerebral Folate Deficiency and it's a low level of methyltetrahydrafolate in her spinal fluid.

Sounds like you made some progress. A little aspirin and folic acid should do the trick and you should be good to go! Good luck!

Megan...I have MTHFR too. It is a genetic defect that causes your body to not process folic acid properly. Some people consider it a clotting disorder and some will tell you its not. Many will say that depends on whether your homocsteine level becomes elevated. Elevated homoysteine is sometimes caused by MTHFR, most often with homozygous C677T forms of the defect. The elevated homocystiene is what causes blood clots, which can cause miscarriages and other problems for mom and the baby.
I am heterozygous C677T. It makes a difference which form of it you have. Do you know whether you are heterozygous, homozygous(2 copies of 1 defect), compound hetero, or compoud homo ? Any form can cause problems, but having 2copies, especially of C677T is generally more serious. I had to ask my doctor the name of my defect and which form I had. He just wasn't going to tell me anything. I am on two folgard tablets daily, along with my prenatal. My doctor has not put me on any blood thinners. I have had 3 miscarriages and he believes it is the MTHFR.
Please read the following link about MTHFR
MTHFR Deficiency
That page has a lot of information.
MTHFR can often be easily fixed by taking folic acid and usually some type of blood thinner, usually either aspirin or lovenox, but not always. I'm not trying to sound scary or anything. I just want you to take the MTHFR seriously. It can cause a lot of health problems, pregnancy related and otherwise. I would find out what form of the defect you have and what your homocysteine level is. Although your homocysteine level can vary each time you test. There are other women on here with MTHFR who probably know more than me,but that is my basic understanding.Iwish you the best! feel free to talk to me anytime

Megan are you on synthroid or armour? Synthroid doesn't do anything for T3's. It took some searching for me to find a doctor who would actually treat T3's.

I've always just taken OTC folic acid, doctor was happy with that- can't see it being much different, and it's not expensive.

Glad you got some answers!!
