For those ladies who have been through the song and dance with the RE, did they tell you NOT to try while they were doing the testing?

I am just a little confused, because I was told to avoid pregnancy at all costs this cycle, while they are doing testing. But I have not ovulated yet and ALL my tests are done. I just had lab work for the basics (thyroid, immune disorders, karotype, HCG levels, hormone levels, etc), an HSG, a mock transfer, and a baseline sonogram at the beginning of my cycle. I am on day 10 now and have had all those things done. My follow up is Jan 11th. But they said they did not think anything was actually wrong with me, that it was just a "thing". So I am confused as to why we can't try this cycle. Oh, and I was not told this by my primary nurse or main doctor...by just a nurse I was consulting with after my baseline sonogram. She mentioned it, but at the main meeting, they said that if I was pregnant at any point or missed my period, they would immediately do a sonogram to see what is happening. So I am really confused.

I am obviously not wanting to screw up the testing, but I am not sure how I can do that even if we do try. And I know that many of the ladies on here understand that super-strong urge to try and the feeling of helplessness when you can't. That is absolutely going on. I feel like we should continue to try...since I have my results from the sonogram tests and they say everything looks anatomically normal. The labs are what we are to discuss on Jan 11th. But I don't want to screw anything up at the same time. I think I will call my nurse on Monday to ask. But I wanted to see if any of you were told the same thing. Thanks!

I was never told not to try. I did 2 rounds of clomid and 1 IUI. Even the month we did the testing we were told to go for it! I had the sonohis done before cd11 so I knew that it was before I would o. Did they say they are doing more testing? Are you trying IVF? I am confused as well. Maybe that nurse thought you were getting other treatments/procedures done and she was not fully aware of your plan. I would call there today and ask again.

I was not told not to try either. The exact opposite in fact. What my clinic said was that since the hsg actually cleans out your tubes (as an added bonus) that chances of conception actually rise in the 3 months following the hsg. I was told, Good luck, this is the last month you have to concieve before we have to use medical assistance. I think if they specifically told you not to, there must be a reason though, I absolutely agree with you about asking the nurse on monday!

I was told not to try too. My testing was for recurrent miscarriages but I don't know if that's what you're talking about... One of the reasons was they wanted to do a biopsy, but even without the biopsy, they wanted to get my labs back and interpret the results so that they can have me on the right meds when I do get pregnant again to avoid wasting time with another miscarriage in case a m/c is inevitable.

I think they really just wanted to be sure you were not pregnant for the HSG. It would cause a miscarriage if you were. I would call the Dr. on Monday too but I think you are fine to try since all your other tests were fine. Good luck!

Hmm if you're still gonna do the hsg then I would not try before the hsg. The reason being that if you happen to fertilize the egg, and THEN do an hsg, the dye might push the egg back into your tubes or even out your tubes and maybe cause an ectopic? Or maybe I'm overthinking it.. at the very least it would cause a miscarriage..

I was being tested for reoccuring miscarriages. So I wonder if that makes a difference in their suggestions. The nurse who told me not to try said it in a "blanket" way...meaning she did not know my case at all (she literally asked why I was there, even though she had my chart right in front of her) and said "we tell couples to avoid pregnancy during testing." So I assume she did not know that we were not heading to IVF or IUI. I am not sure they would even help me, since I can get pregnant and just can't keep them lately. So I will be sure to call on Monday, I won't ovulate before then anyway, so I should be fine asking then.

But yeah, I did think they had mentioned that HSG makes you more fertile because it clears everything out (and so did the mock, since it was saline basically washing the uterus). So I would think they would want us to take advantage of that. Who knows! Lol. I will ask them. Thanks for the experiences, I see it is a toss up

ETA: I already had my HSG (yesterday) and so I don't think there are any worries about that anymore. I literally have no more testing scheduled...now we are just "waiting" for the follow-up. So I think that there would be no real reason not to try...unless there is something in the labwork (like hormones) that would prevent a pregnancy from taking.

OK given the information you just gave, I'm pretty sure the reason I stated before is their reason.. they want to go through the results and see whether they need to give you any treatment or meds before getting pregnant again. Some failed pregnancies can rob months from people.. With my last loss, I conceived in AUGUST, had my botched D&C in October, and still can't TTC yet. So I think they want to wait and see whether they can give you anything to prevent another miscarriage before you get pregnant again.

I think you are right. That seems the most likely reason. I will have to ask to be sure, but I think they just don't want to delay anything. Which, naturally, I don't either. But I know you know that push to want to TTC. I am so sorry about what happened to you. That really, really sucks that you are still in waiting mode. I hope they get it worked out soon and you can get back to doing your thing

I was also told not to try because of RPL testing.
