My friend just bought the clearblue easy fertility monitor. She has PCOS. She has not had a loss. She is currently taking clomid. I guess she read the instructions and packet that came with the monitor and it said it may not work with PCOS.

Does anyone on here have PCOS and uses the monitor?

I don't have PCOS, but I have the monitor... My best guess is because the monitor is best-suited for people with regular cycles because it "learns" as you use it. It starts off with an idea of when to have the user start testing, and eventually it'll stop asking for tests. Since Oing can be so different cycle-to-cycle for someone who has PCOS, the monitor has a hard time "learning" when to ask for test sticks, and might miss the date completely.

She should get her sticks off Amazon if she doesn't already, they're much cheaper there. Amazon or Ebay... I forget which... One or the other!

I can see that. I have never used one so I didn't really know what to tell her. I know she said something about amazon. That may have been where she bought it though.

...Lurking...People with pcos tend to have irregular and long cycles. Each cycle the monitor will ask for a minimum of 10 sticks. Someone with pcos and long cycles might end up using 20+ which can be very expensive in the long run. If you get the sticks at the pharmacy it'll cost $50 for a box of 30 sticks. Plus like the pp said, it learns your cycles, and it'll make it hard to learn if your cycles are irregular. I have pcos, but regular cycles, so it really depends on what your cycles are like. Also, my dh and I only dtd on my 1st peak day each time and I got pg. GL!

I have PCOS and used the monitor and it worked fine for me. I think if she is on Clomid and it works for her, it should make her O at an earlier date than she might if she had PCOS and wasn't getting any help.

Honestly though, OPK's work just as well and for someone with PCOS if you get them off the internet would be a much cheaper option. I know she already bought the monitor, but in case she can't use it or becomes too expensive, OPK's should work for her too, especially if on Clomid.

It also says that the monitor may not work with fertility meds.

I have never used one but I could understand why it might not work as well with PCOS. I have PCOS and until starting my meds (Metformin & Clomid) my cycles were all wacky.
