Hi im new here. My name is Keri, im 23 and i have 2 children, a 6yo daughter and 8mo son. I had 2 mc between them and had another mc on 16th this month. The baby was fine, we had a hb at 5wk 4days, we saw the hb again at my last scan 6wk 3days, 12 hours before i miscarried. Absolutely devastated. The midwife who saw to me told me that obvs the aspirin isnt enough, they think it might be something to do with my blood and that if i give my consent they can give me heparin/clexane injections once i get pregnant again and see a hb. My question is, can i ask for a blood test first to find out if it is my blood? Im willing to do whatever i need to to have a healthy baby but i hate needles and would hate injecting myself even more. Has anyone else had these injections and had a sucessful pregnancy?? Thanks xx

HI, First I'm really sorry about your losses. I have had two myself - you will find great support here.
I would think they would WANT to test your blood to see whether in fact it is a clotting issue you're facing. I wouldn't want to take strong anticoagulants without knowing I actually need them and I wouldn't think a doctor would want to prescribe them either without being sure you need them. There is a panel of tests they would do to find out whether you're having a clotting issue. I would ask them to test you before giving you injections. I wish you the best!!

Sorry about your losses Thats what i thought but nobody has even mentioned blood tests just that they need me to give my consent before they can give me the heparin. I dont want to take something im not 100 percent sure i need or will even help. My partner and i have decided to speak to a doctor before we even consider trying again and i'll make sure that i push for tests before taking anymore medications. Thanks for your reply. Take care

I'm so sorry for your losses

I would ask your doctor for the recurrent pregnancy loss panel, not just the clotting disorders panel. This will also cover autoimmune/hormone/etc issues. That said, I have read that in some cases where no cause is discovered after the testing, some doctors will prescribe heparin under the assumption that an unknown clotting disorder is causing the losses. However it turns out, I hope your next pregnancy goes smoothly!

I am very sorry for your losses.

I strongly recommend a recurrent loss panel before going on blood thinners. I was on Lovenox for clotting disorders and switched to heparin for my son's birth and the heparin lowered my platlet count. You need to be monitored much more closely during your pregnancy if you are on any blood thinner and it can cause issues if you don't need them.

Kat.

Thats what im worried about ive asked a few people amd all have said not to let them give me heparin without proof that i need it. All of my miscarriages were different, missed mc at 5 weeks, blighted ovum and then this mc after seeing a hb. I think it may have been caused by my being ill, my temp was up to 101 the night i started bleeding. I asked a midwife about it and she kind of dodged the question but after seeing a hb the baby must have implanted properly so how will blood thinners help? Im just so confused. Thanks for all of your replies i really appreciate them
